Never ‘tie a ribbon onto luggage’ when going on holiday, warns travel expert

Holidaymakers often tie a ribbon to their suitcase in a bid to make it easier to spot on the carousel. But according to travel experts, this method could be doing more harm than good

Many travellers tie a ribbon to their luggage to make it easier and quicker to spot on the carousel when jetting off on holiday. But this might not be the most effective method, and an expert has issued a warning.

While tying a ribbon around your suitcase might seem like a quick fix and an efficient way to identify it, it could cause more trouble than it’s worth. Baggage handlers on social media have said that ribbons can become tangled in machinery, potentially causing delays.

Such mishaps could even lead to luggage damage or loss – a nightmare situation for any traveller. It comes after Ryanair passengers band together as staff charge woman £75 luggage fee.

Therefore, it’s recommended to use luggage tags for identification instead, reports the Express. Another great alternative is choosing a distinctive and brightly coloured suitcase that stands out on the carousel and could help streamline your travel experience.

Travel and luxury golf holiday expert from Chaka Travel, Gareth Llewellyn, emphasises the more efficient solution. Gareth advises investing in a suitcase with a distinctive pattern or colour, such as red, yellow, green, striped or even polka dots.

Choosing a brightly coloured or unusual piece of luggage is often the quickest way to identify your bag, enabling you to exit the airport faster. Those travelling with expensive and bulky equipment, like golfers, should take extra care in choosing a bag that stands out and is easy to spot.

Opting for a distinctive suitcase can also help avoid mix-ups at the airport and safeguard any valuable items you might be carrying. The colour or pattern of your luggage may seem like a minor detail, but it can significantly impact your travel experience.

In addition, a standout bag, whether in hue or pattern, can help you avoid unnecessary hold-ups and start your holiday on a positive note. So, when you’re in the market for a new suitcase, consider carefully what colour or design would best suit your needs.
