Alejandro Garnacho walked straight down the tunnel instead of taking his place on the bench after he was taken off in Manchester United’s comeback win over Ipswich
New footage has emerged showing why Alejandro Garnacho went straight down the tunnel after he was substituted against Ipswich.
Garnacho started in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich, but he was replaced by Noussair Mazroui as Ruben Amorim reshuffled his team in the wake of Patrick Dorgu’s red card. And the Argentine walked straight down the Old Trafford tunnel instead of taking his place on the bench.
When asked about the situation after the game, Amorim said he planned to speak with Garnacho about it in the coming days. “It was cold and wet, rainy,” Amorim said in his post-match press conference.
“The thing was we would play more in 5-3-1, then we make sub, we had to choose someone to go out. I had to think about set pieces, was my choice. You are comparing with [Marcus] Rashford? I am going to talk about Garnacho with that. You can ask me at the next press conference.”
However, new footage taken by a fan at Old Trafford seems to show that Garnacho indicated to staff that he was going to the dressing room to change his shirt. United will be back in action on Sunday when they host Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
And Amorim will be hoping his side can make it three games unbeaten across all competitions. Reflecting on the comeback win against Ipswich, he added: “I think this is really important, well-deserved by the fans.
“The support was amazing. I felt that since the day one, they just want to see a team fight until the end, no matter what the situation, and I think we did that today. And you have that feeling of connection with the fans.
“All the things in the game was against us and we fight through that and it was a good win for us. We have to improve in every aspect. We lack some characteristics in our squad to play in the different way.
“We need to have more possession and I felt that today we were more calm with the ball, especially in the beginning and especially after we suffer the first goal, I think Bruno was really important on that.
“Sometimes we want Bruno higher in the pitch to be near the goal, but sometimes we need Bruno also building up and I think he was really good on that today because he’s really confident with the ball no matter what the context. We clearly need to create more chances and especially we need to score goals, I think that is a big issue in our team and when we think in the future, we need to address that.”
