Apple is rumoured to be readying the release of new call maker that could be a lot cheaper than the currently iPhone 16 range.
Samsung may have just had its time in the spotlight with the launch of its new Galaxy S25 range but now it could be Apple’s turn to grab all of the headlines. Rumours have been rife for months that the US technology giant has been planning the release of a refreshed iPhone SE and now a report reckons an unveiling could take place as soon as this week.
That surprise launch date – we were expecting Apple to announce things next month – has been announced by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and it’s likely to be correct as this Apple tech guru has a long history of being spot-on when it comes to getting rumours right.
If Apple does launch a new SE, it could be exactly what many have been waiting for. Reports suggest that it will ditch its current old-fashioned looks – that currently features a small screen and Touch ID fingerprint scanner – and take design inspiration from devices such as the popular iPhone 14.
That means owners may get a device with an expansive all-screen appearance, Face ID unlocking technology and USB-C charging rather than a Lightning connection. A single camera might be placed on the rear case and it could come in a number of fresh and fruity colours.
Another important piece of speculation is that it will have the speedy A18 processor tucked inside its body, which means it will be compatible with Apple Intelligence and all the latest smart features such as writing tools, auto image editing, Genmojis and automatic help sorting out clogged up email inboxes.
Finally, there’s the all-important price. It’s thought this new iPhone SE could land in stores for around $500 (£400) which would make it almost half the price of the iPhone 16.
We will have to wait and see if the rumours are true but if Gurman is correct then an announcement could be made within days – watch this space.
