Manchester United are reportedly set to sign Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF when he turns 18 next year

Cristian Orozco has uploaded a cryptic post to his Instagram story ahead of a potential transfer to Manchester United. The 17-year-old midfielder has recently been linked with a move to Old Trafford following his impressive performances in Colombia.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Reds have reached a preliminary agreement with Fortaleza CEIF to sign Orozco. The teenager will be able to officially join Ruben Amorim’s side when he turns 18 next year.

This means Orozco will remain at Fortaleza CEIF until July, and he’ll rock up at Old Trafford boasting an already remarkable record. He has captained the Colombia Under-17s as they made it all the way to the South American Championship final earlier this year.

As word spread about his potential move to United, Orozco headed to social media to share a message with his followers. Captioning a picture of Diego Maradona, who sadly passed in November 2020, he wrote: “Good luck to all, blessings.”

The motive behind the post remain a mystery, but what’s certain is that United are working hard to sign some of the world’s most exciting young talents. The Colombian will be following in the footsteps of Sekou Kone, another teenage midfielder who recently joined United.

Due to Brexit limitations, Ineos have adopted the strategy of casting their net wider to secure promising youngsters for their ranks. Diego Leon, the most high-profile signing since the shift in transfer strategy, was snapped up for a shrewd £3.3m in January, but he only joined the Reds in the summer.

Leon is set to join his United teammates this afternoon for their face-off against Brentford, having been spotted at Stockport Train Station with the squad on Friday, ready for their journey to west London.

Speaking reporters ahead of this weekend’s clash at the G-Tech Community Stadium, Amorim claimed that he’s starting to see the benefits of having more time with his players on the training pitch. The United boss said: “You can try to work on different things, try to imagine different scenarios.

“You have more time, not just to prepare the next game in terms of the strategy for the game, but also to work on your base. And I think you can see that when we play, we create more situations.

“We are suffering goals that we suffered also last year. I think that has to be [to do] with that urgency, that focus, that understanding that we cannot lose games in.

“Especially nowadays, we are going to have situations to score, so we also need to focus [on] that, if we give time to the team not suffering goals, we are near to winning games.

“So, I think that is special, to have that time with the team, and we are improving because of that. I think we would struggle a lot if we had a game in the middle of the week.”

Amorim added: “Now, I have always the feeling that we can win the next game, and we can be dominant. I have that feeling now. What I’m saying is that sometimes, in the small things, in that urgency.

“If you compare the way we start against Chelsea to the way we start against [Manchester] City, [it] is completely different. In that, I’m not certain, all the time, what is going to happen.

“And I’m really clear on that with you and with the players. But the feeling is completely different. I look at my team and I’m going to play against City, Arsenal, and I’m feeling, we can score goals, we can be dominant, we can control the game in certain moments.

“So, it’s a feeling completely different from last year…”
