New poll shows how public feel about multiculturalism and wealth tax

By staff29 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

The polling found the majority of the public don’t believe Britain is lawless, enjoy mixing with other ethnicities, and believe climate change is a threat to their families

The British public supports multiculturalism and rejects the narrative of division offered by Nigel Farage, a mammoth new poll has found.

The “Giga Poll” of more than 45,300 people covered over 80 issues, and showed the majority of the public don’t believe the country is lawless, as claimed by Reform UK, enjoy mixing with people of other ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds, and believe climate change is a threat to them and their families.

However, there were also serious concerns about finances, with 9% feeling financially desperate, with 25% worried about their financial future. A shocking four-in-ten people thinking their personal finances are likely to get worse. Green entrepreneur Dale Vince commissioned the research, which was undertaken last month by anti-fascist group HOPE not hate and supported by the TUC, the polling also reveals the country supports a wealth tax.

It showed eight in 10 people like mixing with people of other ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds. Some 65% think their local community is peaceful and friendly, and only 11% disagree. Six in 10 think the climate crisis will threaten their families’ futures, while 51% of those quizzed say hitting Net Zero by 2050 is essential for life on Earth. However, nearly half of voters think it is too expensive – and want to reduce the ambitious climate targets.

Another popular demand of the country was for Keir Starmer to impose a wealth tax on the richest. Three-quarters of those surveyed say wealthy people are getting richer while poorer people are falling further behind. Only 7% disagree. And four out of 10 Britons said a new wealth tax was top of their priority list.

Four in 10 people believe their personal financial situation will get worse over the coming years, while a shocking two-thirds at best feel that they are getting by – and making cutbacks. And at worst, people are skipping meals or missing rent payments.

Writing in the Mirror, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “How millions have suffered as a result of a decade and a half of Tory rule is laid bare by today’s poll. It shows how shameful Tory policies have systemically impoverished families and denied the malicious child poverty creation consequence of their two child only benefit rule, which has caused continued and enduring impoverishment of families with more than two children.”

Paul Nowak TUC General Secretary said: “Right now, over four million people – one in eight workers – stuck in insecure jobs.

“This isn’t just bad for workers. It’s bad for our country. Economic insecurity seeps into every part of life – straining families, fracturing communities and fuelling distrust in our democracy.”
