Sky has just confirmed an alternative way to watch TV at a vastly cheaper price.
Fancy Sky TV and Netflix but don’t want to face the usual high monthly fees. There is now a new alternative to the old-fashioned dish and it’s way cheaper than you might think. Sky’s Stream box has been available for a while with this device using the web to beam content to the big screen rather than a standard over the air signal. Now Sky has confirmed that it’s making this box a lot cheaper to own thanks to a new package called Sky Essential TV.
This £15 plan includes plenty of live and on-demand channels – including Sky Atlantic – plus there’s also access to Netflix and Discovery+ thrown in as well.

Of course, that low price does mean you will miss out on some channels such as Sky Max, Sky Documentaries Sky Witness but it’s still a decent deal to start your Sky experience. If you fancy adding more services – such as Sky Sports or Cimena – these can be switched on at a later date – extra fees to do apply though.
For those not in the know, Sky Stream is a small set-top box that can be DIY installed and offers full access to live and on-demand channels via the web. It also features personalised recommendations, a simply way to store content to watch at a later date and it comes pre-loaded with apps such as Disney+ and Apple TV+.

If that £15 deal doesn’t sound like it offers enough to watch then you can switch to another new plan called Sky Ultimate TV which costs £22 per month.
This bundle gets everything from Sky Essential TV but adds more channels such as Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, Sky Showcase and Sky Witness as well as premium channels including U&alibi, Comedy Central, U&GOLD and National Geographic.
Speaking about the changes, Ben Case, Managing Director Sky TV, said, “We’re excited to share our world-class TV experience with even more people, at an everyday low price with Sky Essential TV. Our new TV pack makes it easier than ever to get the biggest and best shows from Sky, Netflix and discovery+ all in one place, just in time for the Christmas TV season.”
Before you hit the ‘buy’ button, there are a couple of things to note. Firstly, you will need a decent web connection (around 50Mbps or more) to get the best Sky Stream experience, and you will also need to sign up for a 24-month contract.
