Newcastle eye Champions League winner in fresh Alexander Isak transfer twist

Newcastle are looking to sign a new striker with Alexander Isak wanting to leave the club and Paris Saint-Germain star Goncalo Ramos has now emerged as a potential target

Newcastle are reportedly interested in Champions League winning striker Goncalo Ramos as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak. Isak has expressed a desire to leave this summer and Liverpool have had a big-money offer rejected for the Swede.

Newcastle are looking for replacements for Isak and Benjamin Sesko has emerged as their top target. However, Manchester United are also interested in the 22-year-old and Newcastle are now weighing up their options.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle are prepared to move on to other targets if it emerges that Sesko would prefer to join United. The report adds that Paris Saint-Germain star Ramos has emerged as an alternative option.

Ramos scored 19 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season and helped PSG win the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. It is claimed that Newcastle first considered signing Ramos three years ago before Isak joined and PSG are said to be open to letting him leave this summer.

It comes as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe spoke out about Isak’s future, with the striker expected to report for training ahead of their Premier League opener later this month. “You have to earn the right to train with us,” Howe said.

“We are Newcastle United. The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad – you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here.

“We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal. Of course I’d like him to be (there), but whether he will I don’t know at this moment in time.

“We have been here with the time difference, preparing for training and for games. Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home.”

Newcastle value Isak at £150m and Howe has admitted the situation is “far from ideal”, stating: “I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. I was made aware there was a bid.

“That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation. I really don’t know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.

“I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it’s difficult for me to go into any detail. The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say.”
