Newsboy’s horseracing tips for Tuesday’s three meetings, including Ripon Nap

Newsboy fancies his nap, Flag Carrier, to win at Lingfield and also hopes Dereham can score at Southwell and complete his Daily Double

THE consistent FLAG CARRIER (7.10, Nap) is fancied to win his second race in his last four outings in the Attheraces.com/Market Movers Handicap over seven furlongs at Lingfield on Tuesday. Brian Toomey’s four-year-old last won in March when making good late headway and keeping on well to beat Thomas Equinas by one and a half lengths.

The sixth home, Stella Horgan, franked the form by winning at Kempton next time out. My selection followed that victory with two second places at Chelmsford over seven furlongs and Doncaster over a mile – when finishing six and a half lengths ahead of the rest of the field – respectively. Another similar display should see him go close under Callum Shepherd.

DEREHAM (4.35, nb) was slow out of the stalls last time out and can make amends by beating six rivals in the National Racehorse Week Handicap at Ripon. Given the tardy start in a 1m6f handicap at Yarmouth earlier this month, the John Berry-trained nine-year-old did well to finish second to Senor Cortez. Previously to that the son of Sir Percy recorded a resounding six-and-a-half lengths victory over today’s trip of 2m at Newmarket in July. Held up initially, Dereham moved up to go second over two furlongs out before going clear inside the final furlong and trouncing the seven-runner field.

He could prove hard to beat again on Tuesday.
