Great British Bake Off star Noel Fielding has been pictured in Hampstead, North London, amid his ongoing mystery illness
Noel Fielding appeared in good spirits and looked as flamboyant as ever as he made his second public outing since being forced to step away from his comedy show.
The Great British Bake Off star, 51, was spotted in Hampstead on Friday buying a canvas from an art shop. The TV star appeared in high spirits as he engaged in a phone call while strolling along next to a friend. Noel showed off his usual quirky fashion sense on his latest outing in North London as he modelled a very loud yellow fur jacket with a zebra-print design. He topped off the eye-catching look with a pale blue jumper underneath and paired it with some jeans and brown leather boots.
The TV star’s latest appearance comes after fans were devastated last month by the news that he would no longer be appearing on his Apple TV+ show. His representatives confirmed that The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was cancelled due to the star’s health.
Noel played the lead role of the legendary highwayman in the show’s first series, which aired last spring. However according to recent reports, while filming for the second series began in the autumn, production was paused for the Christmas holidays, and Noel did not return on set. Despite the news, last week, Noel was seen for the first time sporting a huge smile while out in North London. He beamed as he wore a black faux fur jacket, a Drop Dead t-shirt, denim jeans, and burgundy boots. He was out and about with his wife, Lliana Bird, as they met up with friends in the capital.
Although Noel’s departure from filming The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was due to health reasons, some of his colleagues are reportedly frustrated by the cancellation of the second season, especially after only a few weeks of filming remained.
A source told The Sun: “They were understandably bewildered and infuriated by the bombshell because the shoe show required millions of pounds, months of planning and hours of work. It now effectively means that they are all out of work and looking for new jobs, but they still haven’t had a full explanation.”
According to the publication, more than 100 cast and crew are reportedly considering a class action lawsuit against the makers of the show following its apparent axing. They are said to have been left out of work when the second series was cancelled mid-production.
However, a representative for Noel clarified that the star never intended for his decision to step back to lead to such a dramatic outcome. They stated: “This is a private and confidential matter regarding our client’s health. We are saddened by the decision to cease production but we cannot make any further comment on this matter.”
It also comes amid fears that the star wouldn’t be returning to Bake Off due to his illness. A source told MailOnline that there’s “a lot riding” on Noel’s return, as Bake Off is Channel 4’s flagship show and one of the UK’s most beloved programmes. “All those involved understand this is a health matter, but contingencies have to be put in place,” they said.
Noel rose to fame for his starring role in the quirky, offbeat comedy The Mighty Boosh, which aired on the BBC from 2004 to 2007. He has also had smaller roles in comedy shows such as Nathan Barley, The It Crowd, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
