Noel Gallagher has teased his top Oasis tracks from the band’s songbook as rehearsals get underway for the hotly-anticipated reunion tour
Noel Gallagher has dropped some hints about the tunes set to make the cut for Oasis’ summer shows alongside brother Liam.
In a candid chat with photographer Kevin Cummins for his upcoming book Oasis: The Masterplan, Noel shared his shock at the overwhelming response to the Live 25 tour tickets, admitting: “I thought it’d be a big deal, but I was a bit taken aback by just how much of a big deal it was.”
During the interview, Cummins asked Noel for his top pick from the Oasis songbook, to which he responded with a list rather than a single track. Giving his four favourites, Noel said: “Can I have more than one? Supersonic, Some Might Say, Live Forever and Rock’n’Roll Star.”
These early hits are now hotly tipped to feature when the band hits the stage in Cardiff come July. It comes after Noel’s young brother Liam responded to a leaked setlist for the reunion. The rumoured list started with Acquiesce, Some Might Say and Lyla and finished with Don’t Look Back In Anger, Live Forever and Champagne Supernova.
Reacting to the speculation, Liam admitted ‘it wasn’t far off,’ sending fans into a frenzy.
When asked about the most memorable live act he’s ever witnessed, Noel said in a new interview: “The best doesn’t exist. Live things that have stayed with me down the years are: U2, Paul Weller, Neil Young Goldie, Ennio Morricone, The Strokes, Young Fathers and countless others too.”
The Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, will share the stage for the first time since their split in 2009, making their comeback on July 4 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
The band’s line-up is believed to be finalised, with rehearsals set to kick off soon. Newcomer Joey Waronker will join the Gallaghers on drums, alongside more familiar faces from the original Oasis line-up on guitars.
According to NME, the full line-up includes Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Joey Waronker.
The concerts will also see special appearances from Richard Ashcroft and Cast, who are pals of the band. As it stands, it’s not anticipated that Villanelle will be performing in a supporting role, so instead, Gene will likely be observing from the sidelines alongside Lennon.
