Nottingham Forest hold Sean Dyche talks after brutal Ange Postecoglou sack call

By staff19 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Nottingham Forest are searching for a new head coach after Ange Postecoglou was axed on Saturday and lengthy talks have already been held with ex-Everton boss Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche remains Nottingham Forest’s front runner to be their next boss. But owner Evangelos Marinakis is talking to other candidates as they look for a successor to Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked after just 39 days in charge.

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is interested in the job at the City Ground and is a genuine contender. Fulham boss Marco Silva, who is out of contract next summer, is another who is admired by Marinakis but Forest would have to pay around £8m in compensation.

But Forest have already held lengthy discussions with Dyche, who started his career as a youth team player at the City Ground. There is also an emotional attachment for Dyche’s trusted assistants, Steve Stone and Ian Woan, who are huge Forest favourites from their time at the club.

Dyche has been out of work since leaving Everton in January and therefore would not require Forest paying any compensation.

They have been discussing a permanent deal and a short term contract is not on Forest’s agenda while they also know that the terms would have to be right for Dyche to take the job.

Mancini is out of work and therefore a free agent while Silva is out of contract next summer and agents may be scouting around for his next move but it would be hard to get him out mid-season. And while those talks go on, Forest are talking to others and, while no appointment is expected to be imminent, Dyche is the odds-on favourite with the bookmakers.

Forest also know they are now locked in a relegation scrap and Dyche certainly has the skill set and experience to guide the club to safety having worked wonders at both Burnley and Everton.

Dyche has even admitted recently that he is keen to get back into management and even gets upset when he does not get a call from interested clubs. Talking to the quiz show “Call Yourself A Fan?” – which is sponsored by Coral – Dyche said: “The pressure in football is obviously massive now, so you do sort of miss it, but sometimes on a Saturday afternoon when you’re breezing through town and having a few beers with your mates, you think ‘god I’m glad I’m not doing that anymore’.

“Once you’re in it, you immerse yourself in it, but when you get a break from it, it’s time to just step back and enjoy life a little bit.

“The strangest thing in football management is that the job come and gets you, you don’t ring up clubs and say ‘Oh, any danger?’.

“So, if the timing is right and they want you to come do it, then we interview and see if we get it. At the minute, I’m quite enjoying watching what’s going on rather than being immersed in it.”
