Novak Djokovic’s favourite snack can ‘support weight loss and curb cravings’

By staff7 July 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

As Wimbledon takes over our TV screens, many fans are curious about what fuels the world’s top athletes – and it turns out that Novak Djokovic’s go-to snack is surprisingly simple

A diet expert has explained a straightforward natural snack favoured by tennis ace Novak Djokovic that could be the key to quashing hunger pangs, boosting digestion and aiding weight loss – all without resorting to fad diets or costly health supplements. As Wimbledon fever grips the UK once more, there’s curiosity around what powers elite players.

Djokovic’s snack of choice is uncomplicated: dried fruit, with dates taking centre stage. These often-ignored gems are brimming with fibre, natural sweetness and vital nutrients that can help keep hunger in check and encourage a healthy gut.

Professor Franklin Joseph from Dr Frank’s Weight Loss Clinic sings the praises of dates for those aiming to slim down or combat bloating.

“Novak Djokovic follows a plant-heavy, low-sugar diet focused on slow-releasing carbohydrates and nutrient-dense foods,” he said.

“Dates fit this perfectly. Including one or two a day in your breakfast or snack meals can help keep you fuller for longer and reduce the likelihood of reaching for high-sugar, high-fat snacks.”

How dates bolster digestion and help shed pounds

“Dates are naturally rich in dietary fibre, which is crucial for keeping your digestive system regular,” Prof Joseph said. “They help your body eliminate waste more efficiently and support better nutrient absorption.”

Prof Joseph also pointed out that many people battle with blood sugar dips after eating processed treats, which can lead to cravings and lethargy.

“Dates offer a more stable energy release thanks to their natural sugars and fibre content,” he explained. “This helps you stay energised without the highs and lows.”

Adding dates to your routine

Pop some dates into your morning porridge, slice them up for your yoghurt, or team them with peanut butter for an elevenses treat; these sticky delights are not only convenient and delicious but also amazingly adaptable.

“They’re also rich in potassium, magnesium and antioxidants, making them great for heart health, muscle recovery and overall wellbeing,” Prof Joseph said.

Not to forget the humble prune, sharing praise-worthy perks alongside dates, they contribute to keeping things moving smoothly. “Gut health is a huge part of sustainable weight loss,” said Prof Joseph.

“A fibre-rich snack like dates can make a real difference.”

With tennis ace Djokovic smashing it on the court, his dietary picks serve as evidence that wise snacking needn’t be a puzzle.

“Swapping processed treats for small portions of fibre-rich dried fruit is a simple change with big benefits,” concluded Prof Joseph. “It helps regulate digestion, reduce cravings and support weight loss – and it tastes great too.”
