Rocker Zak Starkey was banned from the property after he let slip he was planning a party in the Chilterns for his wife Sharna Liguz’s 40th birthday
The Who and Oasis drummer Zak Starkey has been banned from staying at a Victorian manor house on Airbnb after he let slip he was planning a party.
Both those bands are long past their wildest days but according to the son of Beatles legend Ringo Starr, their reputation as hellraisers still strikes fear into some.
Zak, 58, had booked the six-bed pad in the Chilterns for his wife Sharna Liguz’s 40th birthday. But while he was looking around the plush property, Zak told the cleaners he was throwing a bash, with a host of showbiz pals – including Liam Gallagher, 51, and 60-year-old Johnny Marr – invited.
Zak said: “The Airbnb hosts cancelled after Googling me and seeing Oasis and The Who – the two worst-behaved bands in the history of rock ’n’ roll . It would look great on a T-shirt.”
The hosts yesterday insisted the reason they banned him was not quite so dramatic, as parties are simply against Airbnb rules. They said: “Zak booked our property through Airbnb last week, saying it was to be a three-day getaway from the kids for his wife’s 40th birthday.
“He then said it was really important to see the property beforehand, so he actually came while the property was being cleaned. Based on the conversation he had with the cleaners, it was clear that he was planning to host a party, which is unfortunately not permitted under Airbnb rules. Airbnb then subsequently cancelled his booking.”
Zak said Sharna was “absolutely gutted” not to be staying at the Airbnb in Cadmore End, Bucks, but they had been able to find a new venue at the last minute. Zak is the first-born child of Ringo, real name Richard Starkey, and his first wife, Maureen Cox.
He has been The Who’s full-time drummer since their Quadrophenia Tour in 1996. In 2004, he joined Oasis, filling a void left by long-time member Alan White’s departure. The band split in 2009.
Zak wed Sharna, known as Sshh, in 2022 in an intimate do at the Sunset Marquis hotel in West Hollywood. Dad Ringo attended the bash and Zak’s best man was Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam. Marr watched the ceremony via a video link.
