People have been left seriously unimpressed by the cost of one popular German Christmas food
A photo snapped at Edinburgh’s Christmas market has gone viral, due to one ‘obscene’ detail.
While the idea of visiting a Christmas market, browsing the stalls, and enjoying a selection of festive foods can seem appealing, the actual experience can sometimes be a little bit disappointing.
The Daily Record has reported that some of its reporters visited Edinburgh Christmas market recently and were far from impressed. Scotland Now reporter Alexander Smail said: “While I expected things to be expensive, I was surprised by how little interested me – with so many selling what I can only describe as tat.”
However, it’s the prices of the food and drink that have left visitors to the market shocked, generating a viral post on Reddit. Posting in the r/Edinburgh forum, an angry local shared a photo of a food menu at the market, revealing that a bratwurst and fries was ridiculously expensive.
The disgruntled local said: “Christmas market prices are hilarious.” The image he shared revealed the price for a bratwurst and fries as being £13.50. While a portion of fries on their own would cost £5. To make matters worse, anyone wanting to add fried onions to their hot dog would also need to pay an extra £1.50, making the total price £15.
Shockingly, just past the price sign, there’s also a handwritten sign that complains that customers aren’t tipping enough. The post has become extremely popular and has generated a lot of conversation, with over 100 comments added in just a matter of hours.
One person opted to joke: “Those prices are the wurst.” While a second added: “In Tallinn and Riga, the Christmas market is one square with genuinely good scran and such a better vibe. I’d love something like that, but will be avoiding Edinburgh’s human sardine experience entirely.”
A third person, who had bought an authentic bratwurst at a market in Berlin previously, was appalled by the price hike and said: “I was at a Christmas market in Berlin a few years back and it was three euros for the best bratwurst I’ve ever had… the pricing in your pic is obscene.”
