Olly Murs’ poignant Instagram apology as he halts show after just 20 minutes and leaves stage

By staff23 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Olly Murs, who has had four UK number ones, walked off stage at his show in Glasgow last night amid struggles with his voice – and he has since apologised to fans

Olly Murs walked off stage just 20 minutes into his gig last night – due to struggles with his voice.

The singer, who came runner-up in The X Factor in 2009, left the Ovo Hydro venue in Glasgow six songs into his set. He later posted a video in his Instagram stories, in which he explained it was the first time in 15 years he had abandoned a gig.

But the 41-year-old singer, known for his four number one UK chart toppers including Troublemaker with Flo Rida in 2012, explained he had experienced problems with his voice. He told fans he intended to see a doctor that same night, as he has performances scheduled in Manchester, Birmingham and London over the weekend.

His message in full was: “Glasgow, I am so sorry tonight. So sorry that I had to walk off after six songs and cancel the show. I have never done this in 15 years. Most of the time, as singers, you can kind of get through it if your voice isn’t 100 percent but I walked out tonight thinking my voice was great.

“I maybe felt a little bit rundown but I didn’t think I couldn’t do the show because I wouldn’t have come out there otherwise. So, to walk off after six songs, I am so sorry. 15 years I have never done this.”

He added: “As you can hear from my voice, I was sounding rubbish and it is unfair for you guys to spent all that money to come and see me. You deserve the best show and me being at my best. I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart.”

It was the second time Olly had cancelled a show at Glasgow’s Hydro arena as last year he dramatically pulled out of supporting Take That minutes before doors opened. The dad was also forced to cancel two UK gigs last month. The star took to his social media to tell his fans that his Hull and Brighton gigs would not be going ahead.

The singer, born in Witham, Essex, rose to prominence on the sixth series of The X Factor. His self-titled debut album, released the following year, was certified double platinum. Olly’s most recent album, Marry Me, was released in 2022.

Speaking when he axed the Hull and Brighton events, Olly said: “I hate that I have to write this & really so sorry to let you guys down, but unfortunately, we are having to reschedule our next two shows in Brighton & Hull.

“The gastroenteritis bug I had last night is currently ripping through our band and crew, which makes it impossible to put on a show for you. We’ll be taking a break for 48 hours to ensure everyone can be fit and healthy for the remainder of the tour. Thank you for understanding and we’re working hard to bring you news of our rescheduled dates as soon as we can. Love Olly x.”
