The UK’s coastline is a treasure trove of charming seaside towns, each with its own unique character, attractions and history, not to mention the lively locals.

Wales is renowned for its coastal communities, often peppered with traces of Viking or Norman invasions, castles and fortresses for tourists to discover.

One such town is adorned with vibrant houses, its own castle (naturally) and bustling pubs, all protected from the outside world by a 13th-century stone wall, preserving the quaint atmosphere within.

A two-hour drive west from the nation’s capital, Cardiff, will bring you to the beautiful town of Tenby, with its pastel-coloured Georgian townhouses perched on the harbour, impossible to overlook.

The area offers several sandy beaches, boat trips to the nearby Caldey Island, which is reachable from the harbour and oozes historical charm, reports the Express.

Families can indulge in seal-watching on the island as well as exhilarating rib boat rides and cruises to witness the breathtaking sunset.

Close by, Tenby Castle, separated from the town by a narrow strip of land, stands on a headland overlooking the coast, with its ancient town walls, constructed by the Normans, in pristine condition.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, stretching 186 miles, is also available for walkers and sightseers alike.

Those who have already stumbled upon this picturesque town have confirmed in 5-star reviews that it left a lasting impression, with many vowing to return to Tenby when they can.

“Brilliant spot for a peaceful getaway, our first visit to Tenby, but we’ll definitely return! We’ve already suggested it to mates and relatives,” user canim0151 wrote on TripAdvisor.

The online travel guidance platform describes the town by stating “Tenby is lovingly protected from the outside world by an embrace of 13th-century stone walls, which, ironically, attract-not repel-visitors from all over the world.

“The town is simply adorable, teeming with the archetypes of pubs and shops one would expect to find in a U.K. city. Adding further appeal are the miles of gorgeous beaches and the gently lapping waves of a blue-grey sea.”

Other must-see attractions to explore whilst in town include the Dinosaur Park featuring over 90 life-sized dinosaur replicas, guided walking safaris, fairground rides and a climbing frame. The park also provides a VR experience and numerous additional play zones, ideal for a family break.

“We had a wonderful day…the park was great, lots to do. The rides are great, and some of them are for adults just as much! The dinosaurs were also very good,” remarked Nikolas Z, on Tripadvisor, following his trip.

“But my main praise goes to the friendly staff all around the park, everyone did a great job, and it’s a credit to the attraction to have good staff. A special mention to the young women who does the dinosaur walk, fossil hunt, and other activities.”
