This week’s £10 Tuesday sale at Boots includes a supplement that’s ‘clinically proven to lower cholesterol levels’. The weekly shopping event sees hundreds of products on offer.

The latest deals include a variety of skincare, makeup and haircare products. There are also discounts on some supplements, including the Boots Max Strength Plant Sterols Capsules 60s, down from £19.75 to £10 for just 24 hours – this works out to around 17p per capsule.

The offer is available online only, while stock lasts. Other products on offer include vitamins, digestive health supplements and effervescent tablets.

According to the product description, the Boots Max Strength Plant Sterols supplement is ‘clinically proven to lower cholesterol levels.’ Boots states: “When taken regularly at high doses, Plant Sterols can help stop normal cholesterol being absorbed into the blood and small intestine and therefore help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

“Keeping your cholesterol levels at a normal level will reduce the risk of developing coronary heart disease. Our max strength formula is proven to lower cholesterol levels when you take 2000 mg per day.” Boots adds: “Taking Plant Sterol supplements is a convenient way to complement your diet.

“Plant Sterols have been shown to lower blood cholesterol. High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 1500 – 3000 mg Plant Sterols.” The supplement’s description says it is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over but not for vegetarians, reports Surrey Live.

The NHS recommends reducing the intake of fatty foods, increasing exercise, quitting smoking, and decreasing alcohol consumption to help lower cholesterol levels. Additionally, the NHS advises that some individuals may need medication to manage their cholesterol.

It’s advised to talk to your GP about any concerns about your health. You should also speak to a qualified health professional before starting new medication or supplements.

Reviewing Boots Max Strength Plant Sterols Capsules 60s, someone said: “I use these for high cholesterol and they are very good, they do work for me. I would definitely recommend them.” A second shared: “Good to take on holiday instead of the drinks. Keep cholesterol under control.”

A third reviewer wrote: “Well with a few small dietary adjustments and taking these after a few months I repeated my cholesterol test and the results were better than I had imagined, I won’t stop taking them now as I’ve had no side effects and I have a strong family history of heart disease.”

Unfortunately, someone else replied: “Just be aware that these torpedo shaped tablets are very large (2.5cm long) and not easy to swallow, in fact they make me so I can’t take them.” Another responder claimed: “I was really hoping these would lower my cholesterol but they made no difference and now on statins.”

Alternatively, Holland and Barrett offers Cholestaguard Plant Sterols 60 Tablets for £11.99. Nature’s Best offers High Strength Plant Sterols Supplement – 800mg for £15.95, and Just Vitamins offers Plant Sterols Tablets – 800mg for £18.95.
