The singer and actress believes that her upbringing has placed her ‘on the right side of ethics and morals’ and that she can navigate ‘cancel culture’ with ease
Paloma Faith has confidently stated that she will never be ‘cancelled’, attributing her upbringing for keeping her ‘on the right side of ethics and morals’.
The 43 year old British singer, who launched her podcast Mad, Sad & Bad earlier this year, has been refreshingly honest, even sharing a story about being caught in a compromising situation on a Spanish street.
The star is certain that her frank views and wild tales won’t land her in trouble, explaining to The Sun how she avoids scandal. She declared: “I’m not worried about being cancelled at all. I am pretty cocky about my morals and my ethics. I feel like my politics and everything I’ve done is OK. I was raised by a socialist in a multicultural environment, with gay, straight, trans, drag queens, everyone, all around me.”
The Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer delved into her childhood, recalling the profound impact of seeing a cross-dresser for the first time at age 10.
“Most people getting called out are straight white men, isn’t it? They deserve it. You can’t just go around grabbing people’s bums and dropping drugs in women’s drinks or f***ing shouting homophobic abuse at people and then not expect it to come back on you.”
Paloma also reflected on the initial two months of her podcast, which has featured a diverse range of guests including Alan Carr and Mel B. She revealed that the first series of episodes had centred on conversations with her close friends.
The singer expressed a wish to diversify once the series had gained momentum. She admitted that she occasionally revisits recordings to ensure her words have been interpreted correctly.
Paloma’s comments follow her raucous launch of Mad, Sad & Bad with a teaser on TikTok. The Never Tear Us Apart vocalist shared that the ‘baddest’ moment of her life occurred in her youth, confessing: “When I was 21 I allowed someone to go down on me in the street in Seville.”
“An elderly woman walked by and saw us. I made eye contact with her and she just shook her head in disgust.”
Paloma disclosed her ‘maddest’ moment as when Transport for London introduced the Oyster travel card. She recounted: “I spent three hours crafting a paper mache oyster shell so that I could take myself to the bus. When the bus doors opened, I tapped it on the reader and the driver asked, “What are you doing?” I replied, “It’s an Oyster!” He said, “I’m not moving this bus until you’ve paid”. That is a bit mad because it wasn’t for anyone else’s amusement, it was purely for my own.”
Paloma’s ‘saddest’ moment was her break up with the father of her children, which inspired her latest album, The Glorification of Sadness. She was in a relationship with Leyman Lahcine for nine years before they separated in 2022.
However, earlier this month, Paloma revealed her new boyfriend Stevie Thomas, who she has been quietly dating. At the Sony Music BRITs afterparty, the star was seen cosying up to her partner, who is the managing director of The JamHouse. They were spotted enjoying themselves, laughing and dancing together.
Paloma recently shared that she’s drawing inspiration from all aspects of her life for her new project. The 43 year old singer is back in the studio working on her seventh album.
She explained that it reflects her fluctuating emotions and she’s using everyday conversations as lyrics. She told The Sun that her inspirations come from daily events and passages she has read.
