Ambulances and police rushed to a popular costal path in Devon after a paraglider crashed on a cliff when her ‘parachute collapsed’
A paraglider terrifyingly crashed onto a cliff after her “parachute collapsed” while landing.
Ambulances, police and other emergency crews rushed to the scenic Beer Head Coast Path in Devon on Friday afternoon following reports of the shocking incident. The female paraglider crash landed, falling the last 10ft after her chute collapsed according to the Beer Coastguard Rescue Team. She was transferred to an ambulance and then rushed to a hospital.
The terrifying incident happened on the picturesque Beer Head Coast Path on the Devon coast, popular with walkers and tourists, DevonLive reports. It comes after a kitesurfer noticed a stick in ocean but then realised something was alive on the end.

Sharing details of the incident, Beer Coastguard Rescue Team said it was “tasked to a female paragliding who had crasd landed falling the last 10 feet after her chute collapsed.” They added: “She had landed on her back and was in a lot of pain.
“Initial casualty care [was] provided by us until the paramedics arrived on scene. Lyme Regis Coastguard also tasked along with HART [Hazardous Area Response Team].
“Different extraction methods to get the casualty back to the ambulance were considered. It was decided to use the HART 6 wheeled polaris vehicle, this being the smoothest option.
“The casualty was transferred to [an] ambulance for [the] onward journey to hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
It comes after another paraglider and his pilot tragically plunged thousands of feet to their deaths after their parachute malfunctioned in a horror accident. The Brit had been in the Babadag paragliding spot in Fethiye, Turkey, and leaped from a 6,500ft mountain under the care of his pilot in April.
Their parachute malfunctioned shortly after their 11.45am takeoff, Turkish media reported. A 22 and 29-year-old were sent plummeting on jagged rocks set along the mountainside. The two died at the scene after other paragliders raised the alarm, and flights in the area were cancelled following the distressing incident.
Another person died after paragliding over a tourist hotspot in Tenerife in May. The tragic incident happened on May 31 at around 3.28pm at the natural pools of Puerto de la Cruz.
Emergency services including firefighters, maritime rescue, local and national police rushed to the scene. A rescue helicopter was also dispatched to the scene.
The alarm was raised when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre received an alert from a lifeguard reporting the fall of a paraglider into the water.
The victim was picked up by the GES (General Emergency Medical Services) and was taken to the Puerto de la Cruz pier esplanade, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
