Parents travelling with kids told about little-known rule to make airport easier

There’s a helpful service available in 15 airports across the UK which makes parents travelling with kids a lot easier – here’s everything you need to know and what to do

Parents jetting off with their kids can benefit from a lesser-known service available at 15 UK airports, which allows them to sidestep the liquids rule.

Holidaying with children can be stressful and usually involves lugging around extra luggage. However, thanks to a unique click and collect service provided by Boots, parents can leave certain items out of their carry-on bags.

The service enables passengers to pre-order baby milk and other essentials before their flight and collect them at the airport terminal after passing through security. It comes after a flight attendant urges tourists to always leave a shoe in their hotel room safe.

While there’s no legal limit on the amount of baby milk you can take on board, parents must still undergo strict screenings at security. Parents can carry breast milk in individual containers up to 2,000ml in their hand luggage, and as much formula milk as required for the journey.

However, each milk container will need to be screened at the security checkpoint, and airport staff may need to open the containers for inspection. But with the Boots collection service, parents can avoid this additional hassle at security and bypass the screening process by collecting their baby milk in the airport terminal instead, reports the Express.

The service is available post-security at the following 15 UK airports:

  • Aberdeen
  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • East Midlands
  • Edinburgh
  • Gatwick North and South
  • Glasgow
  • Heathrow (Terminal 2, 3, 4 and 5)
  • Leeds Bradford
  • Liverpool
  • London City
  • Luton
  • Manchester (Terminal 1, 2 and 3)
  • Newcastle
  • Stansted

Boots advises: “Select a delivery date three days before your flight to allow us to prepare your parcel in time. Remember to select the airport store located after security.

“We’ll send you an order confirmation once your order’s been confirmed and a text when it’s ready to collect. We’ll keep your order for seven days from your chosen delivery date, so no need to worry if you get your text early.

“When you are through security, visit Boots and one of our helpful colleagues will retrieve your parcel for you. Now you’re good to go, time to have a safe flight and a great time away!”

Parents can also take advantage of this service by pre-ordering any medication their baby might need and collecting it post-security.

Manchester Airport, which provides the Boots service across Terminals 1, 2 and 3, states: “If your child needs medication while you’re at the airport, or if you need ready-to-drink infant milk for your holiday, you can pre-order it before you travel and collect it from Boots after security check-in.”
