A suspicious package is said to have been found near the Houses of Parliament in central London, leading to the closure of several nearby roads as it is investigated

Roads around the Houses of Parliament have been closed as authorities deal with a “suspicious package” discovered in the area.

It has been reported a security threat has been discovered in the area in central London. The nature of the incident is currently unknown and armed police officers have been spotted at the scene.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror: “On Thursday, 27 February police were called to Victoria Tower Gardens, SW1 at 11:37hrs following reports of suspicious package.

“Officers are currently on scene and are carrying out enquiries. Road closures are in place.”

Pictures from the area have shown police cars set up in the roads close to the Houses of Parliament, with officers standing guard. The College Green close to the area has been swept by officers.
