One man admitted he had just found out the truth about condensed milk after 40 years and was stunned. And it seemed like others feel the same about the discovery

Do you know that condensed milk can turn into something completely different altogether?

One man had no idea for “40 years”, and he was mortified when he found out the truth about condensed milk – that if you put it in boiling water, it turns into caramel, otherwise known as dulce de leche.

TikTok @that40yearguy couldn’t believe it before he did it, saying “ain’t no way”. After he’d done it, he was still as amazed and shocked that it wasn’t something he already knew how to do. “Apparently you make caramel out of sweetened condensed milk”, he scoffed, before popping it into boiling water.

He said he was shocked that if you boiled it for three hours you’d get caramel, and he was still sceptical about it – despite the fact he’d researched it.

The man removed the wrapper and popped it into the boiling water, saying that you want to “let it simmer” on a lower heat for “three or four hours”.

Three and a half hours later he came back to the tins, saying: “Let’s see if we made caramel”. He went to open the tin can, and was quickly taken aback when it “popped” on him, and a little bit exploded out.

He dipped his finger into it to try it, and his jaw dropped at the delicious taste. “Oh my goodness”, he gushed, saying it was “so good”. He pulled more out and said: “Wow, that’s the best caramel I’ve ever had”.

He pulled off the top of the tin, and told viewers to “look” at it, showing that he was proud of his creation. After, he joked he was going to “put it on everything” now he knew how to make it.

People gave him tips in the comments to elevate his concoction, saying: “Pour in a pot on low medium heat and keep stirring. When it starts caramelising, put pecan halves in it. Spoon on parchment paper. DELISH.”

Another warned: “I’ve done this for years! I do it for 3 hours, always watching and making sure the can stays fully submerged under the water. It can blow up in your face if you ain’t careful.”

While a third recommended: “I dip sliced apples in it.”
