The UK’s Food Standards Agency is warning Brits over a diet supplement that is being recalled and is so toxic people shouldn’t ‘flush down loo’ to dispose of
The UK’s Food Standards Agency has sounded the alarm for Amazon customers over a diet supplement recall. The agency highlighted that the product, sold on Amazon and Orgenism’s own website, poses a health risk with a number of people falling ill – infected with antibiotic-resistant Salmonella.
Orgenism’s Eggshell Membrane Capsules are at the centre of the scare, having been found to harbour Salmonella, a bacterium notorious for causing fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
The Food Standards Agency issued a statement saying, “Orgenism is recalling Eggshell Membrane Capsules sold on Amazon because Salmonella has been found in the product. Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.”
Further information from the FSA warned in an update: “This update is to make consumers aware that the Salmonella found in this product has been linked to human illness after consumption of the product. The Salmonella found is resistant to several antibiotics, therefore particular disposal routes are required.”
The FSA elaborated: “The Salmonella found produces extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), and is resistant to several antibiotics, (fluoroquinolones, tetracycline and Fosfomycin), making it more difficult to treat. Inaccurate disposal of the product could cause wider public health, animal health or environmental risks therefore it is important to ensure you follow the advice on how to safely dispose of the product provided below.
“Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
“Public Health Authorities advise if you have consumed this product and have any concerns, you should seek advice from healthcare professionals, using the most appropriate route depending on where you live, (i.e., visit your GP, call NHS111). Even if you feel well, return of the product is essential so that it can be disposed of in a way that does not contaminate the environment and put others at risk. Do not dispose of this product in household waste or flush the capsules down toilets.”

FSA guidance for shoppers.
“Should you have purchased the aforementioned item, avoid consuming it and refrain from binning it with regular household rubbish or flushing the capsules down the loo. Rather, contact [email protected] to secure a complimentary pre-paid returns package and receive a complete refund.”
The FSA releases Product Recall Information Notices to alert shoppers and local councils about issues linked to food products.
On certain occasions, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ gets released. This supplies local councils with specifics of particular measures to implement on consumers’ behalf.

- Fortune Foods Ltd is recalling Laoganma Brand Black Bean Chili Sauce because it contains peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts. This affects 280g pack size under batch code 18232.
