Shannon Collins is known for sharing health and fitness advice online, but she recently shared her daily routine that she feels aids her sleep schedule
The quest for a decent night’s kip can be a real challenge for some.
Luckily, for those struggling to catch some z’s, a personal trainer has come to the rescue with her top tips for a peaceful slumber. Shannon Collins, an expert in health and wellness, normally shares fitness tips online, but she’s recently divulged her personal evening protocol that she swears by for better sleep.
While acknowledging that her methods might not be one-size-fits-all, Shannon decided to answer the frequent queries about her successful rest habits by sharing how she always manages to achieve a good night’s rest.
On Instagram, Shannon wrote: “Just a reminder this is MY routine. Not saying you need to do any of this, just posting what works for me because I get asked what I do a lot.
“Sleep is something I’m always trying to improve as sleep/rest/recovery is EVERYTHING. It can make or break your day. It is honestly the cure all for so many physical ‘issues’ people face related to ‘stress’.
“My biggest work in progress is getting to bed earlier to try and squeeze in more time because, no matter what time I’m going to bed, I’m still waking up at roughly same time daily.”
She added: “I’m getting about 7-7.5 hrs a night right now. Some things that could disrupt your sleep and not even realise it’s the culprit…not eating enough calories (chronically dieting) and doing too much activity! Running yourself into the ground can have a negative impact on sleep quality.”
One thing she’s committed to is making sure she gets some fresh air each day, alongside keeping fit by working out five times a week and clocking in 10,000 steps daily. Shannon also avoids caffeine before hitting the sheets, and drinks plenty of water earlier in the day to minimise nighttime loo visits.
She’s cautious with alcohol intake and enforces a strict no-gadgets rule an hour before sleep. Her other prep includes mouth and skincare routines prior to bed and sleeping in a completely dark room.
The strategies she employs might be straightforward, but they’ve clearly resonated, garnering over 1,000 likes since shared, alongside a number of positive comments too. Many thought they were “great tips”.
One chimed in with: “Yes. Just one drink now in evening has me waking up all night. It’s so frustrating.”
Another reminisced: “Remember being in your 20s and sleeping fine for 8 hours on someone’s floor and waking up for work feeling refreshed? Me too. I miss those days.”
A third also added: “All of these. I also sleep with my phone on my dresser instead of right next to me on my nightstand. That way I’m not tempted to pick it up and scroll. Has improved my sleep tremendously.”
