Presenter Piers Morgan has finally lifted the lid on his public brawl with Jeremy Clarkson at the 2004 Press Awards that ended up leaving him with a scar on his forehead
The long running feud between Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson remains one of the most legendary fall-outs within the world of showbiz, especially as it ended up in a physical brawl at the Press Awards in 2004. And now for the first time, Piers, 60, has lifted the lid on his altercation with the former Top Gear host that left him with a permanent reminder on his forehead.
The two presenters sworn enemies for 10 years, constantly throwing shade at one another and fists at one stage. Jeremy, 65, punched Piers in the head at the Press Awards after the ex Mirror editor published photos of him “in a compromising position with someone who wasn’t the then Mrs Clarkson”, according to Piers.
Jeremy even tipped a glass of water in Piers’ lap on the final flight of the Concorde a year later. “’Look,’ I said to journalists as we walked down the aircraft steps, ‘the idiot’s wet himself,'” Jeremy told the press at the time.
Now, Piers has opened up about how he buried the hatchet with Jeremy. He told the The Times that he used to criticise England cricketers and Arsenal footballers all the time in “intemperate, passionate” outbursts but since speaking to some of them, heard how upset they were.
“But probably the catalyst for my new evolved ability to settle scores, rather than wage feuds, was actually Jeremy Clarkson,” he added.
He then went on to explain hoe they resolved their physical fight which ended up with both Jeremy and Piers with battle wounds. Piers ended up with a scar on his forehead while Jeremy broke his finger.
Piers continued: “It all kicked off like the Wild West and we feuded for about ten years. Terrible abuse. Then he texted me. ‘Morgan. Clarkson here. Drink?’ So we came here to this pub. All the locals were, like, holy f***, it’s going to kick off. But we basically agreed we weren’t going to be best friends, but sort of agreed just not to hit each other.”
Their legendary fall out came after Piers, who was editing the Mirror at the time, came across and published pictures of Jeremy with another woman, that was not his wife.
After pleading with Piers to not publish the snaps, the former journalist did so leaving Jeremy fuming back in 2002. And this led to years of verbal attacks on both sides.
A year after the pictures were published, the pair were sat next to each other on the last ever commercial Concorde flight and Jeremy felt unable to control his anger and poured water all over Piers.
Speaking about the incident on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Jeremy admitted: “I was on its last commercial flight they sat me next to the lavatory, or Piers Morgan as you know him. I poured a glass of water over his crotch, so when he got off, it looked like he’d wet himself.”
In an attempt to belittle Jeremy following their public fist fight, it’s believed that Piers said: “My three-year-old hits me harder than that.”
