Broadcaster Piers Morgan has furiously stepped in to defend Sarah, Duchess of York, who has vowed to not let her ex-husband, Prince Andrew down – despite allegations surrounding him
Sarah, Duchess of York has been defended after she vowed to stand by scandal-hit Prince Andrew.
In recent days, the Duke, 64, has come under fire for his relationship with a Chinese businessman known simply as H6. Andrew’s pal, whose name has not been disclosed for legal purposes has been banned from the UK amidst concerns he could be a Chinese spy. King Charles’ brother said he had “ceased all contact” with the businessman.
Concerns had been raised regarding the businessman suggesting he may be getting close to Andrew in order to gain intelligence about the United Kingdom. An aid to the Duke told the businessman that he was sitting at the top of a tree that many would like to be on.
H6, a 50-year-old businessman is alleged to have used his links with Andrew to secure invites to high-profile events and royal residences. According to The Sunday Times he visited Buckingham Palace twice as the Duke’s guest, as well as attending events at St James’s Palace and Windsor Palace. He was described in court as having built up “an unusual degree of trust” with the royal. He is claimed to have met former Prime Ministers David Cameron at a Downing Street reception and Theresa May at a black tie event, and kept photos of each in his London office.
But despite the ongoing scandals surrounding Andrew, his former wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, has vowed to stand by Andrew. In a new interview with The Sunday Times ahead of the scandal surrounding the Chinese businessman, the Duchess, who still lives with Andrew at Royal Lodge on the Windsor Castle estate said: “I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce.
“I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today.”
Piers Morgan instantly leapt to Sarah’s defence, despite the criticism she has faced for standing by her former husband. In view of his 8.8 million followers, the TalkTV star said: “I love people who are steadfastly loyal to those in real difficulty and the subject of public opprobrium. Very easy to be someone’s supportive mate when theyre riding high, much more impressive when they’re on the rack.”
Andrew and Sarah tied the knot in a lavish ceremony held at Westminster Abbey in July 1986, with his parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in attendance. However, their relationship soon soured following a series of scandals. Due to his naval duties, Sarah and Andrew only saw one another for a reported 40 days of the year which caused a strain on their marriage.
Six years after their huge wedding, the couple announced they were planning to separate from one another. But in 1996, through Buckingham Palace, they announced they were intending to divorce one another. Upon their divorce, Sarah lost her Her Royal Highness status and was no longer classed as a Princess.
Despite their tumultuous relationship, they have remained extremely close and often accompany one another to official events, most notably, Christmas 2023 when they joined King Charles and Queen Camilla for Christmas at Sandringham. They also attended the Coronation Concert following the King’s Coronation at Windsor Castle.
