Lord Alan Sugar turned 78 on Monday – and Piers Morgan, with whom The Apprentice bigwig has had a long-running feud, took the opportunity to mock the entrepreneur
TV titans Piers Morgan and Lord Alan Sugar appeared to have reignited a long-running feud following a blistering social media rally.
Morgan, the former Good Morgan Britain host, had the last say in the latest exchange on X, which was known as Twitter, following a flurry of posts around age. While the journalist and broadcaster wished Lord Sugar a happy birthday on Monday, he couldn’t help but made a jibe – even referencing Donald Trump.
“Happy birthday, my Lord. I’m staggered that the age gap between us is only 19 years. You look about 10 years older than Trump who’s your age,” Morgan’s tweet at Lord Sugar read. Indeed, The entrepreneur celebrated his birthday on Monday, amid the latest run of The Apprentice which saw two sackings last week.
But Morgan’s dig came in response to a barb by Lord Sugar, which read: “@piersmorgan its my birthday today Piersy (78). I know you are trying hard to get me a stainless Rolex daytona let me know when you have it.
“I understand you are reaching the big 60 on the 30th are you eligible for your pension now. You can get you incontinence pants free now on the NHS.”

The apparent feud between the two TV heavyweights began in 2020 when Morgan still hosted Good Morning Britain. The pair had initially been friends, and traded playful barbs on the show, until Morgan fiercely held government ministers to account on his show when the first failings to respond to the pandemic emerged. Lord Sugar tweeted at the time: “What minister in their right mind would want to go on @gmb to be abused and bullied by @piersmorgan.” He also told The Sun: “It’s terrible reporting, I’m sick and tired of him, he’s doing it for his own profile.”
Morgan then labelled his former friend a “disgrace”, while Lord Sugar called him an “obnoxious t***er”. The Apprentice star compared Morgan to Hitler, claiming he didn’t really “give a s**t” about the topics he was ranting about but that he just used them to get people on his side.
The latest exchange has sent X into a frenzy, with many jumping to Lord Sugar’s support. One person posted: “Happy birthday to Lord Sugar! That 19 year age gap might be small, but the shade you’re throwing is massive, Piers.” Another said: “Piers Morgan is trying to mock Lord Sugar’s age, but he looks older than President Trump.” Another penned: “You and lord sugar look the same age.”
Since leaving Good Morning Britain in 2021, Morgan has been a guest on various programmes, including topical debate shows in the US. The father of four started his own programme in the US in 2022, called Piers Morgan Uncensored, which has received a mixed reception.
