Pope Francis makes ‘slight improvement’ says Vatican as condition still closely monitored

By staff26 February 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Pope Francis has been in hospital with double pneumonia and bronchitis since February 14 – but a new chest CT scan has shown the levels of inflammation in his lung tissue are normal

The Pope’s condition has made another slight improvement, The Vatican said tonight.

Pope Francis has been in hospital with double pneumonia and bronchitis since February 14. A chest CT scan carried out on Tuesday evening showed a “normal evolution of the pulmonary inflammation”, it was announced tonight. This means that for a man receiving treatment for pneumonia the levels of inflammation in the lung tissue are normal.

A statement added: “Today’s blood tests and haematological tests confirmed yesterday’s improvement. The Holy Father continues high-flow oxygen therapy; today too he has not presented asthmatic respiratory crises. Respiratory physiotherapy continues.

“Although there is a slight improvement, the prognosis remains reserved. In the morning the Holy Father received the Eucharist. The afternoon was dedicated to work activities.”

There had been fears for Francis’s kidneys after an ‘early, slight insufficiency’ was announced on Sunday evening. The kidney problem is no longer an issue.

The statement from The Vatican did not report Pope Francis as ‘critical’ tonight but it is too soon to say that is no longer the case.
