An ice cream brand has issued an urgent recall in the US over fears its product could cause a serious allergic reaction.

Blue Bell Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling certain batches of its Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream half gallon that was accidentally packaged in a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough carton.

The issue is that the Moo-llennium Crunch flavour contains almond, walnut and pecan which is not declared on the label due to the packaging error.

This means it can be dangerous for someone with an allergy to these particular nuts. No illnesses or serious reactions have been reported to date.

The US Food and Drug Administration said: “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds, walnuts, and pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

You can check if you have purchased the recalled ice cream by checking for the code 061027524 located on the top of the half lid.

The affected ice cream half gallons were produced in Brenham, Texas, and was distributed through retail outlets in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida Panhandle, Northwest Georgia, Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Southwest Virginia.

The packaging error was discovered by a Blue Bell employee while restocking a retailer. Customers who have purchased the affected items can return it for a full refund. If you’re concerned, you can contact Blue Bell on 979-836-7977 or by email on [email protected].
