Popular UK tourism attracts thousands of people each year for ‘most random’ feature

Land’s End in Cornwall is one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks and despite a recent viral TikTok review which branded it ‘weird’ and ‘just a cliff’ – it still draws in the visitors

Finding ways to entertain yourself and the family during the summer break can be challenging, which explains why many opt to spend their day exploring attractions across Britain. Topping many lists, particularly during a Cornish getaway, is Land’s End.

As one of Britain’s most recognisable landmarks positioned at the country’s edge and serving as the most westerly point, the clifftop location has been transformed into a comprehensive family destination, featuring a museum, mini-golf course, 4D cinema and petting zoo. Nevertheless, a recent viral TikTok critique has gained traction after the visitor branded it as ‘bizarre’ and dismissed it as ‘merely a cliff’. Yet despite the scathing review, the location continues to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.

The TikTok concerned was shared by well-known reviewer Phil Carr (@Philc84), and it amassed over 1 million views. Phil opens the clip by saying: “The biggest cash-grab and the most random attraction in the UK – Land’s End. God, I’ve had some emails about this place, and it’s just weird.

“Since 1066, Land’s End has been open to all, but in recent years people have seen the amount of visitors that there’s cash on that there cliff face.”

After purchasing a £21.50 ticket that granted him access to all the attractions, Phil started his adventure at the children’s farm within the site. Phil remarked: “Christ knows why the most westerly point in Britain needs a children’s farm, but we don’t have the time to worry about it because we’ve got crazy golf.”

The pirate-themed mini-golf course was a highlight for Phil, who relished the challenge of the 15-hole game. He commented: “I am having a good time, but the problem with all mini-golf is you’ll just back up behind a family with young children.”

Phil then experienced the thrills of the 4D cinema before exploring the museum dedicated to the iconic Land’s End to John o’ Groats journey.

His day continued with a visit to the Aardman experience, which has been delighting visitors since its opening in 2018. The exhibit showcases beloved Aardman characters and sets, such as Morph, Wallace and Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep.

He mused: “I quite like it. Everybody loves Wallace and Gromit, so why is the Aardman Experience down here?”

Phil concluded his outing with a leisurely walk through the model village, a trek along the clifftop path, and a browse through the “mother of all gift shops”.

For those considering a trip, Land’s End is a mere 20-minute drive from Penzance. Alternatively, the 1/1a and 1b bus services connect the nearby town to Land’s End, though this route is less direct and takes approximately an hour according to Google Maps.
