Portable Lakeland gadget controls ‘damp smell and moisture’ in winter cold snap

One shopper said it is ‘the best unit they’ve used’ to help beat winter damp

Damp and condensation are issues for many homes across the country, particularly as colder, wetter weather sets in. To help fight the problem, Lakeland is selling Absodry moisture absorbers for £22.39, 20% off the usual price of £27.99.

Inside the Absodry’s sleek housing, moisture-absorbing crystals work to draw excess water from the air and condense it into a built-in container. A small window on the side indicates the water level, making it clear when it’s time to empty via a spill-proof spout.

Each 600g refill bag can last up to three months, the brand says. One crystal bag is supplied with the unit, but Absodry refill bags can be purchased from Lakeland, with two 600g bags priced at £10.39 (20% off, usual price £12.99).

As the Absodry moisture absorber isn’t powered by electricity, it’s totally silent, and there’s no energy cost to run it. Measuring just 15cm x 15cm x 21.5cm, the handy unit can be placed in a wider range of locations than bulky powered dehumidifiers — while still offering enough moisture absorbing for spaces up to 50 square metres, Absodry claims.

Alternatively, savvy shoppers who are looking for a deal could check out Amazon’s Haltons – Pack of 5 500ml Moisture Absorber Dehumidifiers, currently priced at £5.94 down from £6.99, saving a handy 15%. Although missing the aesthetics of the Absodry Moisture Absorber, with a no-nonsense design and five included in a pack, buyers can easily control moisture across multiple rooms in the house.

Buyers looking for a similar, non-electric solution to any moisture issues could also look at Debenhams’ UniBond Aero 360 Anti Moisture & Anti Odour Dehumidifier, currently priced at £15.32. With an included refill, it offers a two-in-one solution to bad odours as well as damp, while being made from 60% recycled plastic with a handy level indicator.

Buyers at Lakeland found the Absodry Moisture Absorber to be as functional as it is stylish. One review said: “I needed a solution for my cloakroom to manage the damp smell and moisture, these not only look good but work so well. It takes a few days to start working, but the amount of water this has collected is amazing.”

Another said: “The best unit I’ve used, I have three now, no electric, so no noise, works great in my bedroom, no dampness on the windows like I did have… and downstairs, the toilet, which is always cold and has a damp issue, is sorted. I recommend this product to anyone – we all have moisture in homes and this helps stop it.”

A third said on Lakeland’s Trustpilot page: “Excellent customer service with no quibbles.” Not all shoppers felt the same, however, and one review pointed out that it took some time for the moisture absorber to activate.

They said: “Had this working in my bathroom. Took about three days, I’d say, for the thing to do its work (I think the crystals have to activate). Now the moisture I’ve seen in the bottom of the unit is amazing.

“Helps the baths and showers we have, as it’s not been ideal having the window open all the time with the weather we’ve been having. I’ve just got one for my kitchen and a small mini for my kids’ room as I don’t want damp air in my son’s room.”

Another noted that it isn’t easily transported. They said as part of a longer review: “Thought the lid would close so I could carry it about, but a bit disappointed it doesn’t.”
