WARNING DISTURBING: Emilly Azevedo Sena, 16, who was nine months pregnant, was found buried in a back garden with her belly cut open and her baby removed – a 25-year-old woman is accused of the murder
A pregnant teenager has allegedly been murdered by a woman who lured her to her home, sliced open her abdomen and stole her unborn baby.
Emilly Azevedo Sena, 16, who was nine months pregnant, was found buried in a back garden in Cuiabá, Brazil on Thursday with her abdomen cut and her baby removed.
Nataly Helen Martins Pereira, 25, and her husband, chef Christian Albino Cebalho de Arruda, 28, were arrested a few hours later at a local hospital, after trying to obtain documents to register the birth of the newborn, Emilly’s daughter, in their name. Pereira allegedly lured the teen to the scene the night before with messages on WhatsApp claiming she had baby clothes to donate to her.
She had refused to allow the teen to bring her husband with her, and told the teenager: “You said your husband is going, he can go, I just won’t let him in, because I’m married.” The teen insisted that her husband would accompany her anyway, but would stay outside the house.
Emilly’s mother told Brazilian outlet G1 News that the woman told her daughter she was a mum who was expecting another child, and had even paid for her transport to her home. The mum explained: “She said she had received a lot of baby clothes and wanted to donate some to Emilly. She sent her the location and even transferred money via Pix so my daughter could go there to pick them up. But she went and never came back.”
Tests carried out on Pereira after her arrest determined that she was not pregnant. Emilly’s child remained in hospital on Friday.
Emilly’s body was found buried in the back garden of the suspects’ home on Thursday, hours after they were arrested at the hospital. Police believe she was strangled to death with cables, and Detective Caio Alexandre told local media that the couple had “used a bladed weapon to remove the baby”.
Pereira’s husband, Christian de Arruda, 28, told investigators that he had believed his wife had genuinely given birth, and was unaware of the murder.
He even shared photo of the child on social media, accompanied by a caption reading “be well my daughter”, to announce he had become a dad. The incident is investigated by Brazil’s Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP), who are also said to be questioning two other suspects Detectives say they may be charged with aggravated murder, concealment of a body and procedural fraud.
