Pregnant Love Island’s Tink Reading undergoes emergency surgery after health scare

By staff30 April 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Former Love Island star Tink Reading has been rushed to hospital and has undergone emergency surgery after being diagnosed with a rare pregnancy condition

A former Love Island star has had emergency surgery after a very rare pregnancy condition. Tink Reading revealed she had a molar pregnancy which happens in less than one per cent of pregnancies.

Tink, 27, who appeared on series ten of the programme took to social media on Tuesday night to reveal she was rushed to hospital after being diagnosed with the condition. She has been diagnosed with a form of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD), meaning that the egg doesn’t develop as it should do.

Cells which often form the placenta grow grow too quickly and can become cancerous if they’re not removed. Tink was put to sleep under general anaesthetic after discovering she had the condition. On social media, she told her followers that she was “petrified” following the scare.

The Birmingham-born reality star admitted she had been “debating” whether to inform her online followers due to “simple embarrassment” and wanting to keep things private. Sharing a snap taken from hospital bed, said: “I’ve been debating whether to say anything at all. down to the fact of simple embarrassment, not wanting everyone to know my personal life business and the stigma that has evolved around these types of situations.

“However, if this post helps just one person going through a similar time, or even just the knowledge and awareness of what this is. well, then it’s worth it.” Tink went on to say: “Last Wednesday morning, I found out that I was experiencing something called a ‘molar pregnancy’. I for one, had never heard of this before and every friend/family member i have spoken to since hadn’t either. This is because less than 1% of pregnancies end up becoming a molar pregnancy. Less than 1%.”

She continued: “The definition of a molar pregnancy: A molar pregnancy, also known as a hydatidiform mole, is a type of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) where tumours grow instead of a placenta. If not removed, these cells can become cancerous. By Thursday morning, i had to be rushed in for emergency surgery to remove the ‘tumours’. as I was told it had to be treated sooner rather than later.”

The star who appeared as a Casa Amor bombshell in 2023 went on to say: “I had less than 24 hours to process the information I had just been given, and prepare for the fact the only treatment available for this is to be put to sleep. I was nothing but petrified. Thankfully, the surgery went as planned and now it is just the waiting game. Waiting for the results from the tumours and what the follow-up care plan will be. the start of what’s going to be a very long road.”

She added that she wouldn’t have been able to deal with the scary news without her loved ones and “mostly” her boyfriend who had been “holding her up when she couldn’t stand.” But she admits she understands that not everybody going through a similar issue has the same support network and urged her followers to reach out to her if they were in the same position.

Her post was soon flooded with messages of support, with former Love Island star Lydia Karakyriakou writing: “You are so brave for telling your story! Sending you all my love.” One follower penned “Love that you posted . Even help one person or bringing awareness makes a difference. Love you lots.”

A third went on to add: “I’m so sorry angel, sending you love.” Another penned: “Sending well wishes and thank you for sharing and raising awareness for topics like this most people know nothing about. Fingers crossed for your results.”
