The Premier League have reportedly selected the clash at the Emirates Stadium as part of a Ref Cam trial with the last match between the two side stirring up plenty of tension

Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Manchester City will see the continued trial of a new feature for TV when the two teams meet later this month. Ref cam is being trialled by both the Premier League and PGMOL this season.

Selected games will see the match official wear a camera on their shirts, as well as an ear piece and a microphone. The images can then be shown on the live TV coverage of the game, giving viewers a unique view of the pitch.

The Daily Mail report that the clash between Arsenal and Man City at the Emirates Stadium has been selected as a match in which the cameras will be in use. The game will take place on Sunday, 21 September with kick-off at 4.30pm.

Last season’s clash at the Etihad Stadium caused some tension between the two teams with City accusing Arsenal of using ‘dark arts’ to try and see out a 2-1 lead with 10 men. Pep Guardiola ’s side found an equaliser in the 98th minute of the game with the score ending in a 2-2 draw.

Ref cams will offer a unique perspective as the official takes charge of the game, who that will be will be announced by the Premier League in the build-up to the game. However, no controversial incidents from the match will be shown, and there will be no live footage from the camera with the images instead replays of match incidents.

The idea was trialled during both the end of last season and during the Premier League Summer Series in the USA over pre-season. Referee Jarred Gillet wore a boycam during the Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Manchester United back in May, with the league sharing some of the footage following the match.

The feature was also used earlier in the season in Sky Sports ’ broadcast of Liverpool ’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Footage shown on TV included referee’s Simon Hooper’s view of Ryan Gravenberch’s goal to open the scoring during the game.
