Premier League player publicly risks FA punishment after suspension confirmed

By staff30 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has voiced his frustration after picking up his fifth yellow card of season which will see him miss Everton’s clash against Crystal Palace through suspension

Everton star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has slammed refereeing decisions after he was suspended for one match following his fifth yellow card of the season. The former Leicester City and Chelsea midfielder will miss the Toffees’ encounter against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was cautioned late on at the Hill Dickinson Stadium during their 1-1 draw with West Ham United after being adjudged to have fouled Kyle Walker-Peters. Dewsbury-Hall appeared to win the ball back from the defender as Everton pushed for the winner but Sam Barrott sounded his whistle – much to the dismay of the midfielder.

He becomes the first player of the season to be suspended in the Premier League for reaching five yellow cards, ahead of Sasa Lukic and Alex Jimenez who have four and three cards respectively.

Reacting to the news of his one-match ban, Dewsbury-Hall shared a post from the official Everton account on X, commenting: “Forgive me if I’m wrong, and I might be, but some of these decisions are so hard to take. Mind boggling.”

His suspension comes after the controversial yellow that he received during Everton’s Merseyside derby defeat against Liverpool. Dewsbury-Hall’s caution at Anfield caused a stir as he was booked midway through the second-half for taking a quick free-kick, landing him his fourth booking of the season.

Dewsbury-Hall will now be keen to avoid a two-game ban for 10 yellow cards in the first 32 games of the season. He’ll also be hoping the Football Association don’t take exception to his social media post and punish him further.

The suspension to a key player has been dearly felt by manager David Moyes as he took aim at the refereeing decisions after feeling hard done by. “I think the decisions we’ve had at the moment [have been frustrating], but I think all the managers might be saying that at the moment,” said the Scot.

“I mean there’s been a general poor level at the moment, I thought the decision on Dewsbury-Hall was a really shabby decision. He’s played really, really well.

“He’s been a great signing and has started the season really well for us, getting goals and creating goals, and we’ll miss him. I mean, it’s quite ridiculous when you think of his yellow card at Anfield and now that one tonight.

“It’s strange… As I said, it’s not just me, I think most managers at the moment are probably feeling the same.”

Dewsbury-Hall’s Everton teammate Jack Grealish also hit out at the decision at the time. “I’ve never seen a player in my whole life get booked for taking a quick free-kick,” he told Sky Sports.

“I don’t know where that rules come in. Even the stoppage time, what was it, three minutes and one minute? Come on, I’ve never seen that in the Premier League in the last two or three years.”
