Premier League quotes of the season from Erling Haaland’s Arsenal jibe to Arne Slot blast

Cole Palmer shrugged, Mohamed Salah teased and Ange Postecoglou promised silverware at Tottenham. It’s been another memorable season, with Liverpool securing a historic Premier League title crown.

And, as we head into the final day of the campaign on Sunday, there’s not too much to play for. Arne Slot is a Premier League winner in his first season in England and Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City are already relegated.

There is, however, still plenty to be excited about. The race for top five goes down to the wire, with Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest all battling it out to secure Champions League football next season.

And while it may feel too early to reflect on the season when it’s not finished yet, there have been plenty of talking points. Here, we look back at the quotes of the Premier League season.

“They are big shoes to fill.” – Arne Slot had the daunting task of taking over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

“We just need to stay brave and be ourselves, that’s the challenge all the time. And yeah, we’ll have a lot of fun.” – Russell Martin looked forward to newly-promoted Southampton’s campaign.

“The team was always good but I think we can make steps forwards.” – Erik Ten Hag was also optimistic at Manchester United.

“114 points – if we do that we will win the league for sure.” – While over at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta had lofty ambitions.

“Stay humble, eh?”- Manchester City striker Erling Haaland’s succinct message to Arteta.

“I always win things in my second year. Nothing’s changed.” – former South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F Marinos manager Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham lost to Arsenal.

“Nah, it’s too early man.” – Cole Palmer gave an in-depth analysis of Chelsea’s title chances.

“I’m not good enough. I am the boss, the manager, I have to find solutions and so far I haven’t. That’s the reality.” – Pep Guardiola suffered a mid-season crisis at City.

“It’s about believing in themselves and, look, the only way is up. It’s where we want to go, as a club and as a team, to get results going and build on it.” – Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy after a 3-0 win over Leicester.

“More out than in.” – Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future looked uncertain.

“Mathematically until it’s impossible, we keep going. We want to show that we can score goals, that we can get a clean sheet at this level and pick up points.” – Leicester boss Van Nistelrooy after a 3-0 defeat by Manchester United.

“To quote Monty Python, I’m just a naughty little boy.” – One for the teenagers from Postecoglou.

“Over my dead body.” – Arteta refused to concede the title to Liverpool.

“If we don’t win the league, I’ll ****** blame you.” – Slot boiled over at referee Michael Oliver.

“You are watching the worst pound-for-pound football team in the country.” – Gary Neville fluffed the audition to become Old Trafford stadium announcer.

“I don’t want it to be that we are the worst team in the history of the Premier League.” – New manager Ivan Juric realigned Southampton’s targets.

“We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United.” – Ruben Amorim realised the size of the task at hand.

“If you want me to swear, I can swear.” – Graham Potter, because managing can do this to people.

“Today’s result confirms our place in the Championship next season.” – Saints put a positive spin on relegation.

“More in than out.” – Liverpool announced Salah was staying…

“I’ve got to a point now where I feel like I need a change, a new challenge for me as a player and as a person.” – before Trent Alexander Arnold announced he was leaving the new champions.

“I’m not angry about him going on a free. if you’re a Liverpool fan and a local player, I’m just disappointed that he doesn’t think that this is it.” – Jamie Carragher: not angry, just disappointed.
