Prestwick Beach horror find as leg still wearing shoe and sock washes ashore

By staff16 June 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

A member of the public discovered the human remains on Prestwick Beach in Ayrshire last Tuesday – it’s not yet known whether the leg belonged to a man or a woman

A human leg still wearing a shoe and sock has washed up on a beach in Scotland. A member of the public made the grim discovery on Prestwick Beach, Ayrshire on Tuesday, June 10 at around 10.45am. Police are yet to reveal whether the remains are those of a male or a female. However, one witness claims they saw a leg bone with a sock and shoe still attached.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed they had received the report and had launched a probe into the grim discovery. They said: “Around 10.45am on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025, we received a report that human remains had been discovered on Prestwick Beach. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, one witness said: “I was walking along the beach early on Tuesday morning when I came across a leg bone. It was buried under some seaweed. It was just a bone with the sock and shoe still on it.”

Ayrshire is the same town where a notorious murderer killed and dismembered a teen before dumping his limbs in Loch Lomond. ‘Limbs in the loch killer’ William Beggs was sentenced to life in prison over the killing of Barry Wallace, 18, back in 1999. The teenager’s limbs and torso were found in the lake, which is just outside Glasgow.

Beggs, originally from Northern Ireland, met Barry on a night out in Kilmarnock in December 1999. He lured Barry back to his flat in the town, brutally sexually assaulted him, murdered him and cut up his body.

A few days after that, Barry’s limbs were discovered in Loch Lomond while his head washed up on a Troon beach weeks later. Beggs had kept the head for two days before throwing it from the Troon to Belfast ferry.

Beggs turned up in the Netherlands a year after the murder and was finally sent back to Scotland for trial after a lengthy extradition process.
