Pretty seaside town is ‘like Amalfi coast’ but with UK’s biggest Wetherspoons

Boasting palm trees and sandy beaches, the town has been compared to the Amalfi Coast in Italy by visitors

A quaint British town just a two-hour journey from London has been likened to Italy’s stunning Amalfi Coast. Ramsgate, located in Kent, boasts a ‘distinct continental feel’ with its ‘sandy beaches’, bustling waterfront bars, cafes, and restaurants, and breathtaking views across the marina.

The Boating Pool on Westcliff Promenade, lined with palm trees and featuring a large round boating pool, is particularly reminiscent of the Amalfi Coast. The town also offers a mix of artisan shops and boutiques set against a backdrop of colourful buildings and, of course, the sandy beaches.

For those seeking a bit more adventure, there are opportunities to cycle, canoe, and kitesurf along the chalk cliff coastline.

Ramsgate is also home to the British Freestyling Kitesurfing, Kite Foiling, and Wing Foiling Championships. Thanks to favourable weather conditions and a thriving ‘kitesurfing community’, the town caters to enthusiasts of all skill levels.

Dog lovers will find plenty to do in Ramsgate as well, with numerous dog-friendly activities, welcome signs, and bowls of fresh water dotted around the town. Visitors can download walking trails, dine at dog-friendly eateries, or even enjoy a boat ride with their furry friend.

Art enthusiasts will find a wealth of museums and galleries in the town, including Gallery 98, perched at the top of Ramsgate’s high street. This gallery hosts art exhibitions featuring works from both established local artists and budding newcomers.

Hold Creative Spaces is another gallery that offers workshops and classes, with a mission ‘to make your creative life simple by providing creative services to all’.

The Italianate Glasshouse, nestled in the town’s King George VI Memorial Park, is a favourite amongst visitors. Open from April to September, guests can soak up the ‘tranquil and peaceful surroundings. The Glasshouse also boasts a cafe, offering a perfect spot for a seaside snack.

Ramsgate is also home to the UK’s largest Wetherspoons. The Royal Victoria Pavilion, a hit with locals, spans two floors and can accommodate up to 1,500 customers.
