Nestled on the western fringe of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Ogmore-by-Sea, a quaint seaside hamlet in Wales, has unexpectedly become a magnet for Londoners yearning for a more tranquil and picturesque way of life.

Situated just three miles south of Bridgend and around 20 miles west of Cardiff, this delightful village is luring new visitors with its breathtaking coastal views and peaceful ambience. With a modest population of only 878, Ogmore-by-Sea presents a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the capital city.

The village is situated at the mouth of the River Ogmore, where the estuary converges with the sea, bordered by the sandy shores of Ogmore and the undulating dunes of Merthyr Mawr. It comes following news about a small fishing village with some of the UK’s best seafood, but hardly any tourists.

The beaches at Ogmore, with their sand at low tide and jagged rocks at high tide, offer a stunning yet rugged setting that has long been admired by both locals and tourists. The quaint village is not only visually captivating but also steeped in history, reports the Express.

The village’s west-facing coastline, akin to those in Cornwall and Brittany, was once infamous as a ship graveyard during powerful onshore winds. The perilous Tusker Rock, located slightly offshore and submerged at high tide, has claimed many ships over the centuries.

Despite urban legends suggesting that villagers used deceptive lights to entice ships to their destruction, there is no historical evidence to back up these tales of shipwrecking. Ogmore-by-Sea, with its rich maritime history, has fostered a tight-knit community.

The village church, which started in a small house in 1954, expanded to the point where a dedicated building was required by 1968. This church, still active today, marked its 50th anniversary in 2018, underlining the village’s enduring sense of community.

For those relocating from London, Ogmore-by-Sea’s allure lies not only in its natural beauty but also in the lifestyle it provides. The village is encircled by opportunities for outdoor pursuits, from rock climbing along its rugged coastline to exploring the hidden coves and caves that speckle the shoreline.

The nearby Southerndown Golf Club and the historic Portobello House also contribute to the village’s charm, offering both leisure and a link to the past.

As more individuals uncover the beauty and serenity of Ogmore-by-Sea, this once-overlooked village is rapidly becoming a popular destination for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
