Price of pies and pints at Premier League games rocket for punters

Premier League teams have been accused of ‘pushing fan loyalty’ with eye-watering prices, with a pint of lager costing £7.50 for those watching Fulham at Craven Cottage

A league table of the Premier League's most expensive pie and a pint has been revealed.
A league table of the Premier League’s most expensive pie and a pint has been revealed.

Footy fans face another kicking this season as some avid football enthusiasts will be charged a whopping £7.50 per pint.

A survey of the latest costs for a pie and a pint in the Premier League has seen clubs accused of ‘pushing fan loyalty’ with the latest prices. Fulham fans will be left with light wallets if they want a a pint during a match as their team tops the Premier League price table.

Supporters of the West London club will now pay an eye-watering £7.50 for a pint of lager at Craven Cottage, which is up 4% on last year’s price of £7.20. London rivals Arsenal are runners-up in the lager league – as they have been in the Premier League for the past three seasons – charging £7.20 for a pint of Asahi.

Manchester United, Fulham Arsenal and Everton have seen the biggest increases.

Man Utd have increased pint prices the most, after an eye-watering 51% increase this season. Prices at Old Trafford will be £5.75 for a pint of Madri, a rise of £1.95. Arsenal have topped the table for most expensive pie. Fans will pay £8.85 for a ‘pie on its own with gravy,’ the most expensive in the Premier League, compared to £6.75 last season, a whopping 24% price hike.

Fulham is also home to the league’s second-most expensive pastry, despite dropping the price of a steak and ale pie by 50p to £6.50 – down 7%. The largest pie increases are at Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium, where prices have shot up 54% compared to prices at Goodison Park.

Fans will have to fork out £6 for a pie in their new home – compared to £3.90 last season. Consumer expert Scott Dixon, said: ”Premier League clubs are pricing out the next generation of fans. Hiking lager and pie prices by 50% during a cost-of-living crisis is tone-deaf and indefensible.

“These mark-ups are less about necessity and more about blatant greed. This isn’t about inflation. It’s about clubs testing how far they can push fan loyalty. It’s time for clubs to reward loyalty and stop seeing their fans as cash cows to rip off at every opportunity.”

Premier League clubs point out that they offer early bird discounts and bundle offers on food and drinks. Last season, Fulham had pre-game and post-game offers for every match. For this Sunday’s game against manchester-united-fc>Manchester United, the club are set to offer fans pints for £5 before and after the game.

Manchester United said previous cheaper prices were part of a two-season-long discounted beer trial and that some new prices are still cheaper than they were three years ago. Everton’s pie price hikes follow a change of caterer at their new stadium.

Chelsea and West Ham fans are already celebrating as their teams are the only ones to see lager prices drop. The cheapest pint on offer comes at the home of champions Liverpool. A pint at Anfield now costs £4.50. The least expensive pie is also at Anfield, with Liverpool charging their fans £4. Fulham and Manchester City are the only clubs to drop pie prices.
