Primark makes big Christmas 2025 change for all shoppers

By staff17 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Primark has made a new change that impacts all shoppers ahead of Christmas 2025

Primark has made a huge change to its Christmas returns policy for 2025 ahead of a busy festive season. Primark, which operates stores across the UK and Ireland, has confirmed the dates for shoppers to return items – with a change this year.

The high street fashion retailer is extending its normal 28-day return policy for shoppers in the run-up to Christmas, from October 14, 2025, to January 30, 2026. In that period, any items bought between those dates can be refunded or exchanged.

Primark will accept the returned item if it’s in a “saleable condition”, with the tags attached and a valid receipt. If the return is made within Primark’s usual 28-day returns period, refunds will be processed using the original payment method.

For those who don’t have the credit or debit card used for the purchase, the retailer offers an exchange instead. However, shoppers returning items outside of the 28-day period can only be returned for a refund or exchange.

The full statement on Primark’s website reads: “We’re happy to offer a refund or exchange on any item within 28 days of purchase, as long as it’s returned in saleable condition with the original receipt.

“Products purchased on or after 14th October 2025 can be returned for a refund or exchange , provided the item is returned in a saleable condition with the tags attached and you have a valid receipt. until 30th January 2026.

“Refunds will be processed using the original payment method. If you don’t have the credit or debit card used for the purchase, we can offer an exchange instead.

“For hygiene and safety reasons, we cannot accept returns or exchanges on underwear (including sets), piercing jewelry, opened or unsealed health and beauty products, gift cards (including digital and third-party gift cards), face masks, or swimwear without an intact hygiene seal.

“This policy does not affect your legal rights. Please note that Primark does not offer returns or exchanges by mail for non-faulty items or in-store purchases. If you’ve received a faulty item, please visit your nearest store.”

Most major retailers offer similar policies this time of year. Last year, John Lewis extended its policy to allow returns right up to January 23, and Argos and Sainsbury’s allowed them until the end of January for purchases made from September 27 onwards.

Whether you’re shopping in-store or online, it’s worth double-checking each retailer’s fine print. It’s always possible to ask at the till or snap a photo of the returns sign if you’re shopping in person too.
