Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s £5,000-a-night accommodation – Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver – has previously been booked by other celebrities, including Tom Cruise and Ed Sheeran
Prince Harry will feel at home during his time in Canada as he is staying in a suite in one of the country’s most luxurious hotels – complete with a crystal chandelier, a meditation pool and even its own ‘Dirty Harry’ cocktail.
The Duke, 40, was seen arriving at the five-star Fairmont Pacific Rim in a convoy of three large blacked-out SUVs on Friday evening local time in Vancouver, where he and Meghan, 43, are set to front the Invictus Games. The nine-day event will begin on Saturday afternoon with a star-studded opening ceremony featuring live performances by a host of stars, including Katy Perry, Chris Martin and Nelly Furtado.
It is not known which suite Harry and Meghan are occupying, but the Chairman’s Suite – which would be appropriate given Harry’s role as founder of the Invictus Games and patron of its Foundation – is certainly fit for a prince. The design of the two-storey 2,250 sq-ft apartment style accommodation, which has been nicknamed the “Rock Star Suite”, is said to have been inspired by a Balinese villa.
The cost of the suite, which has previously been booked by stars including Tom Cruise and Ed Sheeran, is not advertised publicly, but is believed to be more than £5,000-a-night. It boasts its own outdoor rooftop patio, which includes a private gazebo with a meditation pond and fire pit, alongside a private rooftop tented terrace.
It also includes a custom 8’-long Swarovski crystal chandelier, two luxury bathrooms, two living room areas and its own kitchen, pantry and wine cellar, as well as a lavish master bedroom featuring a fireplace. And it even has its own private elevator and private door away from the rest of the hotel.
The suite also offers the option to connect to a separate guest room for a total of 2,650 square feet of glamorous city living, with amazing views of the area’s picturesque North Shore Mountains. The Fairmont Pacific Rim is just yards from the Games’ main competition venue the Vancouver Conference Centre and the two are connected via an underground walkway.
It is considered one of Canada’s most luxurious hotels and has previously been named among the top 10 in the world for food. Guests in the Chairman’s Suite are treated to a daily complimentary breakfast, made fresh to order, and are also given access to a daily canapé hour, prepared by the hotel’s top savoury and pastry chefs, which bosses say “pair well with the wine menu and sunset hour”.
The hotel has also been lauded for its cocktail menu, which includes a ‘Dirty Harry’ – a vodka based drink, with dry vermouth, ginger, and pickled cucumber. The beverage was named after Douglas Coupland’s ‘Dirty Harry, 2021’ artwork, which is among artwork hanging by the hotel’s elevator entrance.
Harry and Meghan are no strangers to the area having moved to nearby Vancouver Island immediately after they quit royal duties in what became known as ‘Megxit’ in 2020. They later moved to Montecito in Meghan’s native California, but are both known to be keen lovers of Canada after also starting their relationship with secret dates and stays in Toronto, where Meghan lived while filming the TV drama Suits, for five years.
The world-renowned Fairmont hotel chain has long been a favourite of royals during visits to Canada. During their 1939 Canadian tour, King George IV and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, officially opened Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, which still operates not far from the newer Pacific Rim, which opened in 2010.
The royal couple also paid visits to several other Fairmont properties in Canada, including the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, where Harry’s late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and late grandfather Prince Philip also visited in 2005. Queen Elizabeth II was also a regular at the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, reportedly visiting nearly every decade after her coronation. The hotel was named for her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria.
