Prince Harry is set to take a solo trip to New York City later this month for a range of engagements – and the first details of what he will be up to during the visit have now been revealed

The first details of Prince Harry’s upcoming solo visit to New York have been revealed – and he risks an awkward run-in with an ally of his estranged brother Prince William.

It was announced last week that Harry would be spending time in the Big Apple in late September to coincide with both the UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week. It had only been revealed Harry will “advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives”, according to a spokesperson, and participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst. He will also promote the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organisation he co-founded with Meghan.

However, now it has been confirmed that he is set to be a guest speaker at the 2024 Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in NYC, which is taking place on September 23 and 24. The Foundation founded by former US president Bill Clinton and supported former US secretary of state Hilary Clinton and their daughter Chelsea, with the theme of this year’s gathering of political, business and philanthropic leaders called “What’s Working”.

During his appearance at the meeting, Harry plans to discuss the launch of The Archewell Foundation Parents’ Network, an initiative supporting parents whose children have suffered or died due to online harm. He will also address his nonprofit’s collaboration with the World Health Organization and others to end violence against children, an issue he and his wife Meghan outlined on their recent trip to Colombia.

Harry will be among a range of speakers at the conference, which will also include Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon, who will chat about the status of the $1billion (£760million) plan he announced in 2022 to give 100 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America lasting access to water and sanitation.

Meanwhile, another speaker will be World Central Kitchen founder Jose Andrés. Harry and Meghan previously referred to him as a “longtime friend” on their website, while he paid tribute to them last year, writing: “You bring hope to each and every community you touch.”

However, earlier this week, it was revealed Mr Andrés has now taken on a project with Harry’s estranged brother William. He has now been hired to be part of William’s Earthshot Prize Council – a huge project with members also including Sir David Attenborough.

Mr Andrés has worked on multiple humanitarian projects in recent years with his nonprofit organisation providing meals to those impacted by natural disasters, climate change and other crises. Earlier this year, he was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and has been twice named among Time’s 100 Most Influential People.

However, one person Harry won’t be seeing in New York is his older brother, William. Harry’s trip will also overlap with the 2024 Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, scheduled for September 24. The Earthshot Prize is one of William’s key areas of work, and last year he was in New York for the 2023 summit. It led to speculation that the feuding brothers could awkwardly be in New York at the same time next month. But it has since emerged William is not travelling to the Big Apple later this month and had never planned to.

William did attend the summit in 2023 but his appearance at it in 2022 had to be cancelled as it came during a period of royal mourning after the death and funeral of the late Queen – although he did send a video message.
