James Corden has been pals with Prince Harry and David Beckham for years, but the footballer was reportedly forced to act as a peacekeeper between his friends after an ill-timed joke from the Duke
Prince Harry once took a cheeky swipe at his pal James Corden, which reportedly left David Beckham forced to play peacemaker between the pair, according to reports.
Gavin and Stacey star, James, 46, has been friends with the Duke of Sussex, 40, and David, 49, for years after shooting to fame in the UK and then across the pond in Los Angeles.
Back in 2011, David and Prince Harry are said to have held a get-together at a private members club in London for their pals, in what is reported to have been billed as a “pre-Christmas boys’ p**s up”. James was starring in the award-winning One Man, Two Guvnors in the West End at the time and so arrived several hours after the party had begun – with all attendees in high spirits.
Upon the Fat Friends’ star’s arrival, Harry is said to have made a jibe at the actor, which – according to the Mail – reportedly left James fuming. A source told the outlet – which has chosen not to reveal what the Royal said – : “There was rapture when he arrived. He was a much-loved part of the group and there were hugs and giggles.
“The group was pretty large. There were some of Harry’s friends, some of James’ friends and some of David’s gang and they all intertwined. Then it all kicked off, James was furious. It quickly emerged that Harry had told a joke and James definitely did not find it funny.”
The source claims that father-of-four David tried to build bridges after the skirmish, saying: “It fell to David to smooth things over. He is loved by everyone, I mean, who wouldn’t want to do as they were asked by a legend like him? He did a great job and managed to talk everyone round. Eventually, James calmed down and the night carried on.”
Prince Harry of course went onto marry Megan Markle before welcoming their son Archie and daughter Lilibet into the world. The couple left for L.A shortly after their nuptials, choosing to ditch their royal titles. On Friday, they were photographed in California, comforting the victims of the Los Angeles fires.
Seen hugging those who had lost their homes in the devastation, the pair lent their support as the ferocious flames continued to ravage through California. The Duke and Duchess remain at high risk due to living in Montecito, just 60 miles from the fires across Malibu.
In a statement, the couple said: “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighbourhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centres, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued. If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas.
They continued: “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbours to see if they need help evacuating. Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”
