Prince Harry has talked about how he really felt about having Meghan Markle at his side during the first few days of his Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler before she flew home to Caifornia
Prince Harry has revealed how he felt about having Meghan Markle “by my side” during his Invictus Games – just days before she flew home without him.
Meghan spent five days with her husband in Vancouver and Whistler for the 2025 Games, putting on a loved-up display, with the pair even seen kissing during the opening ceremony. They were also seen sinking beers during their time in Whistler and even had time for a double-date night with singer Michael Buble and his wife Lusiana Lopilato.
Meghan also used the event to use her newly-launched Instagram account to document what had been happening behind the scenes. However, yesterday it was confirmed that Meghan had flown back to California to get back to her and Harry’s children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, Harry will stay on at the event until it closes on Sunday.
And speaking to PEOPLE magazine before Meghan flew home, the Duke of Sussex revealed what it was like to have her with him at the event. He said: “To have my wife here supporting me is amazing. I love that she’s by my side. It’s such an important piece to this whole adventure.”
Meanwhile, Harry also opened up about Archie and Lilibet and how they are also ‘fascinated’ by the event for sick and injured service personnel. He added: “It’s a very interesting conversation to have with your kids — to explain why that person is missing a leg, why that person is missing an arm, why do they look the way they do. It’s challenging but important.
“Our kids are still so young, but Archie especially is asking those questions. I’m constantly trying to make sure that I get it right in explaining what’s happened to [the competitors] and what we do at Invictus to try to make their lives better and give them a chance to redefine themselves.”
More than 500 competitors from 23 nations are taking part in the seventh edition of the games in Vancouver, which began on Saturday and will go on until February 16.
Meghan’s attendance is understood to underscore her support for her husband and the mission of Invictus, a cause that is deeply personal to them both, and her focus at the games will be on uplifting her husband, the competitors and sharing their stories.
The pair were previously seen cheering together for competing teams at the games’ opening ceremony before posing for posing for a selfie with Canadian singer Nelly Furtado. Harry, a former British Army captain, launched the Invictus Games in 2014 as an international sports tournament for injured service personnel and veterans.
They aim to “inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country”, the Royal British Legion said. The Invictus Games were held in London in 2014, in Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017, Sydney in 2018, The Hague in 2022 and Dusseldorf in 2023.
