Katie Evans, 26, was jailed after performing a sex act on an inmate at HMP Doncaster – and is now reportedly engaged to a new lover who vowed to ‘stand by her’ after the conviction
A prison officer who was jailed after performing oral sex on an inmate and calling herself his “queen” is reportedly now engaged to a woman who says she is “standing by her”.
Katie Evans, 26, was jailed on Tuesday after confessing to an “intimate” relationship with convicted robber Daniel Brownley at HMP Doncaster. The mum-of-one boasted to an ex-prison officer that she had performed a sex act on Brownley and collected drugs cash on his behalf during a six-month period in 2020.
Hours after her sentencing hearing at Sheffield Crown Court, where she was jailed for 21 months, Evans updated her Facebook profile picture to one of herself being kissed on the cheek by her supposed new partner Beth Hulley, 27.
Hulley, who reportedly lives with Evans in Hatfield, near Doncaster, has vowed to stand by her, telling MailOnline: “I’m standing by her and I’ve got her back.” Hulley has shared images of the pair on holiday together on social media. She also appeared to confirm their engagement in an Instagram post about their engagement party.
Katie Evans, 26, wept in the dock on Tuesday as she was sentenced to 21 months behind bars by a judge who told her she had been “manipulated by an experienced criminal”. The mum had been “corrupted” by prisoner Daniel Brownley shortly after she started working at HMP Doncaster when she was 21, the court heard.
Evans had more than 140 phone calls with Brownley, moved money around bank accounts for him, and supplied him with information the prison held on him, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said. When talking to Brownley she referred to herself as ‘your Queen’ and boasted to an ex-prison officer that she had performed oral sex on him.
Judge Richardson told her: “It appears you indulged in some form of sexual activity in the prison. It has been described that on one occasion you had oral sex with him. It is truly a terrible situation for a judge to be passing sentence on a former prison officer who has been branded a corrupt prison officer.”
He said the sentence of 21 months should have been longer but, “purely as an act of mercy”, he reduced it to take into account the effect it will have on Evans’ relationship with her young daughter and the difficulties she will have in prison as a former officer.
