It’s the one app very few people think to look for signs of infidelity – but one private investigator claims she has cracked the cheater code by exposing it
A private investigator has caused a stir on social media after exposing a little-known method that some iPhone users employ to hide their extramarital conversations.
Cassie Crofts explained that those who are having clandestine affairs have moved away from conventional messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger to avoid detection. Instead, the founder of Venus Investigations explained on her company’s TikTok page how Apple’s Notes app has become a tool for cheaters, allowing them to communicate in secret without leaving obvious traces.
“I am a private investigator and this is the iPhone hack that cheaters are obsessed with,” Cassie said in her TikTok video and explained how this method works.
While the Notes app is commonly used for daily tasks – such as creating shopping lists or jotting down reminders – it also has a function to share notes with other iPhone users. It was that loophole which Cassie claimed cheaters were exploiting.
The functionality allows two or more people to edit a note in real time, without leaving a visible history of the modifications made. Messages can be written and immediately deleted after being read, reducing the chances of a suspicious partner discovering them.
“If you’ve got an iPhone, you can create a shared note with someone else, put notes in there to each other, delete them when you’re done; you can even put a password on it so no one else can access it,” the investigator explained.
The appeal of this technique lies in its discretion, as it is unlikely that a partner would suspect such a common app – much to Cassie’s dismay as she hinted that people need to start being more vigilant.
“Think about it: a suspicious partner is probably going to check your text messages, maybe even hop on Messenger, but are they really going to remember to check the Notes app?” Cassie reflected.
The video has garnered more than 129,000 views and plenty of comments from people who shared their experiences. One user said: “My ex husband was having an affair and messaging through the games app Words with Friends.”
Another praised Cassie for exposing this loophole, stating: “Such a shame you’ve given them ideas but also helping us gals out at the same time.”
Others, however, spoke of the benefits of the shared notes function, with one user saying: “This could be good in domestic violence situations too, accessing friends and family.”
More ways to spot a cheat
Spotting a cheater can be a challenge, but according to the Spanish website Psicología y Mente (Psychology and Mind), there are certain behaviour patterns that can alert you to a possible betrayal.
One of the most common signs is a change in your partner’s attitude. This may include an increase in phone privacy, changes in schedules or increased irritability. In some cases, the cheater might act the opposite way, showering their partners with attention as a distraction strategy.
In addition, the emergence of new friendships or unexpected interests could be a warning sign.
Another important clue is a change in communication and intimacy within the relationship. The cheating person might avoid certain topics, become more evasive or show less interest in their partner’s life. Changes in the frequency or quality of sexual relations can also be an indication of possible infidelity.
