A professional cleaner admitted she doesn’t want to have to deep clean her own home because it’s a gross job, sharing the tasks she does on a daily basis instead
Nobody particularly enjoys deep cleaning. Scrubbing a month’s worth of dirt out of anything isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time. That’s why a professional cleaner shared the things you must do every single day to ensure you don’t have a huge task a month or two down the line.
Cleaner @cleanwithj shared her “non-negotiable house rules” that she “lives by,” urging others to adopt the same cleaning habits as her, because that way, things will not get overwhelming, and you won’t find yourself desperately trying to scrub weeks’ worth of debris off your hob, which just sounds grim.
1. Clean your sink every night before bed
It’s far too tempting to just leave your sink a little bit mucky after you’ve washed the dishes that can’t be put into the dishwasher. However, J warns you shouldn’t do that because you can end up with a bacterial build-up.
She wrote: “Sinks can hold more bacteria than your toilet seat, so they have to be cleaned every day.”
2. Clean your hob every night
She explained getting “leftover food” off your hob in the morning is a “nightmare,” so it’s best to just tackle it as and when it happens.
J urged people to “clean after each meal,” pointing out that even little things like pasta water boiling over can stain the hob and make it much more difficult to come off.
3. Get yourself flowers
J said that getting herself flowers and putting them in her living room “makes the room feel finished and pretty,” and we couldn’t agree more!
4. De-scale your kettle
She said you should do this “each month,” joking that “living in a hard water area is not for the weak”. To descale your kettle naturally, you can use white vinegar or lemon juice.
Start by filling the kettle halfway with equal parts water and either white vinegar or freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn off the kettle and let it sit for about 30 minutes to an hour. After soaking, pour out the solution and rinse the kettle thoroughly with fresh water.
If any limescale remains, you can gently scrub the interior with a soft brush or sponge.
Finally, fill the kettle with clean water, bring it to a boil, and discard the water to remove any lingering taste or smell before using your kettle again.
5. Clean your oven often
J recommended you “wipe the inside of the oven with a wet cloth and Zoflora every two weeks”. She said: “Anything to avoid a deep clean later along the line.”
6. Air-dry clothes
She said she prefers to air-dry clothes “rather than using the tumble dryer,” but did acknowledge the weather in the UK can be quite unpredictable, so sometimes the tumble dryer is needed.
7. Fill nappy caddies
She said this one is “one for the mums,” sharing if you fill nappy caddies full of bits you need, it makes life so much easier.
“I have one upstairs and one downstairs,” J admitted.
