PSA Prime Marine Drives Expansion Through Skills Partnership with Local College

By staff14 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

PSA Prime Marine, the multi-award-winning yacht maintenance and management firm run by Su and Pete Stirling, has taken another bold step in its growth journey by partnering with South Hampshire College Group to bring fresh talent into the marine sector.

As part of the company’s commitment to skills development and local engagement, two 18-year-old engineering students recently joined the team for their mandatory college work placements. Among them, Tamim quickly distinguished himself through his initiative, reliability, and aptitude for technical, hands-on tasks.

Originally from Iran, Tamim was invited to stay on part-time while completing his studies—having already proved himself a valuable member of the crew. His role spans a variety of practical activities, including varnishing, mechanical servicing, polishing, painting, and plumbing, all of which contribute directly to the company’s day-to-day operations.

“Tamim’s work ethic and enthusiasm have been outstanding,” said Pete Stirling, Co-Founder of PSA Prime Marine. “He’s exactly the kind of young person we want to support and develop in this industry. It’s a pleasure to be able to give him the hands-on experience that complements his studies.”

The timing couldn’t be better. Following strong interest at a recent boat show and a growing customer base, the company has been working to scale up its operations. With Tamim on board, PSA Prime Marine has been able to meet increasing demand while also focusing on brand development and refining its marketing strategy for continued growth.

The Stirlings plan to offer Tamim a full-time role upon his course completion this June and are eager to build on this success by providing more students with real-world experience through continued collaboration with South Hampshire College Group.

“We’re passionate about playing a role in shaping the next generation of marine engineers,” added Su Stirling. “Working closely with the college gives us the opportunity to nurture young talent while offering students real-world experience that directly supports their education.

“Having been a teacher myself, I know just how important it is for young people to put theory into practice. There’s only so much you can learn in a classroom – true growth happens when you’re out in the real world, solving real problems. We’ve created an environment here that encourages curiosity, champions dedication, and gives students the space to build confidence and skill through hands-on experience. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that spark when someone realises they’re capable of more than they thought.”

This initiative reflects PSA Prime Marine’s long-standing dedication to craftsmanship, community development, and the future of the British marine engineering industry.
