Paris Saint-Germain are not prepared to waste a minute in their potential pursuit of Marcus Rashford, who was in talks to sign for the Ligue 1 side from Manchester United last summer
Paris Saint-Germain could renew their interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford this summer if he tells them he is keen on a move to the Parc des Princes.
Rashford, 26, has been on PSG’s radar for some time and he even negotiated with the club before signing a new five-year contract at United last July. However, it’s claimed the Ligue 1 side felt they were being used as leverage by Rashford and his representatives to secure a better deal.
PSG are drawing up a list of replacements for Kylian Mbappe, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. Mbappe has been PSG’s talisman since Lionel Messi and Neymar left last summer, scoring 29 goals in 28 matches so far this season.
And according to reports, a move for Rashford to PSG should not be ruled out. But the England international would have to first indicate he has changed his stance on leaving United because PSG do not want to waste anymore time trying to sign a player who does not want to move.
It’s claimed Rafael Leao and Benjamin Sesko could also be on PSG’s summer transfer shopping list as they try and bolster their forward line this summer. Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to PSG, with Arsenal and Chelsea among the Nigerian’s potential suitors.
Rashford has struggled for form this season, scoring just five goals in 28 appearances. He returned to the starting XI and found the back of the net in the 4-3 victory over Wolves last Thursday after missing the FA Cup trip to Newport County following an ill-advised booze-filled trip to Belfast.
He missed training on the Friday leading up to the game against Newport and has since been fined two weeks’ wages. United wanted to quickly put the situation behind them and Rashford scored within five minutes of his return, slotting coolly into the corner beyond Jose Sa.
“I think the whole team played very good and Rashy as well, but we know that,” Ten Hag said when asked of Rashford’s performance against Wolves. “We see the last games, coming about in the front line. If they get the service from the back, they are a threat, I think, for every opposition.”
When quizzed by TNT Sports if Rashford needed his goal, Ten Hag said: “Sure. But it was a fantastic team goal. We scored more such goals from building up.
“Many players involved, get it switched and score a great goal. I think what you see consistently is the last games when he has three goals and I think two assists in I think three or four matches.”
Rashford failed to find the back of the net in United’s 3-0 win over West Ham on Sunday but still has three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, dating back to the 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest in December.
